The Technical Application Scientist - Clinical Sequencing is part of the Life Sciences Solutions Group (LSG) which is one of six groups within Thermo Fisher Scientific and is an important contributor to the company’s total value proposition. How will you make an impact?

The Technical Applications Scientist II will take ownership for providing pre- and post-sales technical support for part of our sequencing portfolio, particularly Ion Torrent Next Generation Sequencing instrumentation and Oncomine and AmpliSeq applications, software and analysis. The TAS II will provide support directly to customers and field personnel, as well as relaying feedback to the organization.

Location:

This is a hybrid position requiring 2 days onsite in one of the locations listed ie. Grand Island, NY, Carlsbad, CA, Eugene, OR, Santa Clara, CA or South San Francisco, CA. No relocation assistance will be provided.

What will you do?

  • Provide technical support for NGS products and workflows by answering customer technical inquiries. Inquiries may be received via telephone, email, or web form.

  • Provide support on technical issues by using all available resources and collaborate with various experts within our organization to address issues or problems when warranted.

  • Work with Clinical Application Scientists and Field Application Scientists to ensure effective support for Ion and Oncomine Assays. Collaborate on customer projects, providing technical expertise and clinical insights to enhance the implementation and utilization of our NGS platforms.

  • Accurately record pertinent information from customer contacts in our Customer Relationship Management system and assist in the development of continuous improvement.

  • Gather commercial and technological trends and convert them into technical tips, create FAQ’s and work on troubleshooting guides.

  • Recommend changes to our knowledge databases, websites, and other company-managed resources of technical information.

  • Present technical updates to colleagues and contribute to our department meetings. · Participate in frequent training on products and continuing education on our new applications and technologies.

  • Perform other related tasks as opportunities arise.

  • A minimum of travel may be required for the position.

How will you get here?

Education Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Molecular Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics) is required.; a Master's degree or PhD/post-doctoral experience in a relevant field is preferred.

Experience

  • 2+ years laboratory experience.

  • Strong “Hands on” experience with Sequencing techniques, ideally with Oncology sequencing experience.

  • Previous experience working in a clinical laboratory or clinical research environment, with exposure to NGS technologies and interpretation of genomic data, is highly desirable.

  • Prior experience in customer service or a customer facing role is a strong plus.

  • Fluent English. Additional European languages are an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Requires in depth knowledge of NGS instruments, software, kits, and services and proficiency in working with NGS products, particularly Ion Torrent and Oncomine Assays, is critical.

  • Solid understanding of clinical oncology principles, practices, and terminology.

  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and data analysis pipelines commonly employed in NGS workflows is preferred.

  • Willingness to adapt to evolving technologies and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in NGS and clinical oncology. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

  • Regulatory knowledge: A firm understanding of the laws, regulations and guidelines that govern the clinical diagnostic sector, with a willingness to stay up to date with the ever-evolving regulatory landscape, ensuring awareness of the legal obligations and requirements which businesses must adhere to.

  • Proven ability to quickly learn large amounts of new, complex technical information.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, to customers and colleagues.

  • Ability to balance multiple tasks while ensuring timely and accurate completion.

  • Problem-solving abilities and a natural curiosity.

  • Digital literacy, including spreadsheet, database, word processing and Internet applications.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in New York is $60,000.00–$90,000.00.
