Department Summary

The Department of Physics is an instructional and research department within the College of Arts and Sciences that supports significant research activities in a wide range of fields in the Physics discipline. The department includes approximately 35 teaching faculty in addition to emeritus faculty, research staff, graduate students, and professional/administrative staff. The department enrolls approximately 2,000 students per term, with approximately 200 undergraduate Physics majors and 100 graduate students.

Position Summary

The Department of Physics at the University of Oregon is seeking qualified applicants for its open pool for research positions. Positions are limited-duration appointments that are part-time or short-term contracts not to exceed one year. There may be a possibility of renewal up to a total of three years, depending on programmatic need, funding, and performance.

Research Assistant positions will conduct research under the direction of the Principal investigator (PI). Research Associate positions will be conducting research with only general guidance from the PI. Postdoctoral Scholar positions conduct research under the direction of a faculty member for the purpose of acquiring research training.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum qualifications by rank:

• Research Assistant (Type B): Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Senior Research Assistant I (Type B): Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post degree

• Senior Research Assistant II (Type B): Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post degree

• Research Assistant (Type C): Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Senior Research Assistant I (Type C): Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post degree

• Senior Research Assistant II (Type C): Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post degree

• Postdoctoral Scholar: Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Research Associate: Terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field

• Senior Research Associate I: Terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 6 years of applicable work experience post degree

• Senior Research Associate II: Terminal degree in biology, chemistry, or related field plus 12 years of applicable work experience post degree
