Position Summary
The purpose of the position is to provide the best fastening solution to meet the customer’s technical needs. The Application Engineer will liaise with Account Managers, Product Managers, Sales and Customer Services functions as a recognized expert in the application of mechanical fastening principles. The Application Engineer will be responsible for the coordination of all resources (e.g. Product Design / Engineering etc.) in order to conduct applications project(s). The role requires travelling, mostly to customer’s locations in France (90%) & the Benelux region (10%).
Key Responsibilities
Supports sales in the identification of customer requirements, specifications and preferences in the field to achieve the best improvements in quality and productivity, leveraging the opportunity to cross/ up sell on technical expertise
Provides technical support on fasteners, tooling and applications to customers, inside and field based Sales Managers and the Customer Service teams.
Develops fastening solutions (product & use recommendations) for customer specific applications.
Creates customized product proposals for customer specific applications.
Manages the production of product samples with the support of product managers to meet customer-specific needs.
Manages Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA / VE) initiatives (tear down, line review).
Responsible for managing the regional sales pipeline generated by opportunities that require application engineering support.
Specialize as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in a strategic market for the business by developing in-depth understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing processes, trends, legislation and product developments
Maintain SME status in designated vertical and ensure knowledge sharing among the wider application engineering and sales team.
Develops and maintains a good customer rapport and a positive image through customer contacts.
Utilises Salesforce CRM system to prioritize workload, supporting associated Engineering Projects where required.
Develops and runs regional customer and staff training and technical sessions to pre-planned schedule
Ensures application best practices are shared with global colleagues monthly
Supports the quality function with the customer complaint process and regional service centers
Manages and maintains the demonstration area within the assigned facility, for the purposes of internal and customer training
Completes and submits on a timely basis all required internal information, reports and documents.
Report on progress using KPIs driven by Salesforce CRM system
Experience, Skills and Qualifications
Preferably a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a technical background gained by experience
Experience in applications engineering is definitely a plus
A reasonable level of English (written and verbal)
Customer focused with a positive & flexible attitude
Self-motivated& able to work on own initiative
Ability to understand customer needs and confidently propose (innovative) solutions
Innovative, solution-focused problem-solver
Knowledge ofthe fastening and assembly industries are highly desired
Basic understanding of mechanical testing techniques (Tensile test machine, hardness test machine, etc.)
