UPMC Security Officer in Erie, Pennsylvania

This full-time role will require availability for all shifts but primarily overnight shift from 6 PM to 6 AM, with additional coverage on weekends and holidays. The schedule follows a rotating pattern, with every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off. Responsibilities:
Staff fixed posts to monitor ingress and egress to secured areas, ensuring only authorized individuals access restricted zones.
Provide customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff, maintaining a safe and secure environment through effective communication.
Inspect incoming and outgoing parcels to prevent theft and ensure no unauthorized items enter or leave the premises.
Respond to and resolve problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances quickly to minimize disruptions and maintain safety.
Maintain required certifications and licensing, ensuring compliance with all security-related regulations and standards.
Assist with traffic control and vehicle assists, ensuring smooth operations around the facility and responding to emergencies when needed.
Transport deceased individuals to the morgue or release bodies from the morgue in accordance with hospital procedures and policies.
Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms, responding promptly to alarms and assisting with resolution as necessary.
Establish a visible security presence by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds, and associated areas to deter criminal activity and document incidents.
Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, ensuring safe transportation during security operations.
Conduct patient escorts and stand-by details, ensuring patient safety and facilitating the smooth flow of hospital operations.
Complete all mandatory training programs per departmental guidelines, staying updated on security protocols and procedures.
Report and document incidents, suspicious activities, and hazards to ensure accurate records and prompt corrective action.
Preferred:
- High School diploma or equivalent
Required:
Must be available for all shifts
Be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written format
High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information
Must possess strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations with persons from all walks of life
Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations
Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies
Able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.

Officers are required to wear a bullet proof vest.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Act 235 with Firearms OR Act 235 without Firearms - All officers hired without a valid Act 235 must complete the 235 certification within their first 6 months of hire or placement and have process completed within 9 months of hire. Must meet audio and visual standards outlined in Act 235 at time of hire. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certification required within 30 days of hire. Valid Driver's License. Successfully pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to hire.
Act 31 mandated reporter within 90 days of hire/transfer
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
