Are you looking for a flexible opportunity? UPMC Hamot's PACU would like to add a Casual Professional Staff Nurse to their team! IU or ICU experience highly preferred.

Casual salary rates range from $34.00/hr to $39.30/hr. For more information on the Casual program please reach out to morrisonlm2@upmc.edu.

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience

The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and a key member of the care delivery team. This role involves setting standards for the level and quality of care, and encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The nurse is responsible for managing and providing patient care activities for a group of patients and their families, using independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally.

  • Understand cultural differences and promote healthy relationships.

  • Balance work and personal life, model safe work hours, time management, and a healthy lifestyle.

  • Communicate safety hazards to peers and management.

  • Apply adult learning principles in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff.

  • Provide detailed and appropriate teaching to guide patients and families through care transitions.

  • Support the development of students, new staff, and colleagues; may serve as a preceptor.

  • Apply the nursing process within the framework of Relationship-Based Care.

  • Formulate daily goals and care plans involving patients as partners.

  • Demonstrate critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues.

  • Practice solid communication skills and articulate patient conditions to other care providers.

  • Ensure comprehensive patient documentation to promote communication between caregivers.

  • Incorporate national professional organization and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

  • Build healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

  • Demonstrate accountability for professional development and quality of patient care.

  • Participate in unit-based shared governance, goal setting, and quality improvement efforts.

  • Adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility.

  • Utilize research and evidence-based practice to support clinical care improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.

  • Understand principles of growth and development over the life span.

  • Ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret age-specific needs.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with all stakeholders.

  • Work productively and effectively within a complex environment.

  • Good clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Preferences:

  • ICU or IU experience is highly preferred.

  • 1+ year of nursing experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Preferred: UPMC-approved national certification.

  • Required: Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the state of the facility or a compact state.

  • CPR certification based on AHA standards within 30 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
