Responsibilities:

• Procure appropriate blood specimens using venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick techniques.

• Instruct patients on collection procedures for self-collected laboratory specimens and collect other types of samples as needed.

• Transport specimens from collection areas to the laboratory while following established safety procedures.

• Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers; respond to telephone inquiries promptly.

• Demonstrate reliability and independent judgment, prioritizing tasks to meet departmental needs and accepting appropriate authority.

• Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, and personnel policies.

• Perform documentation duties, including entering demographic information, test orders, and managing sample data using computer systems.

• Train and orient new employees, students, and residents; inform technical staff and supervisors of unusual incidents.

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred

• Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program

• Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy

• Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience

• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.

• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

• Act 33 with renewal

• Act 34 with renewal

• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
