Responsibilities:
Procure appropriate blood specimens using venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick techniques.
Instruct patients on collection procedures for self-collected laboratory specimens and collect other types of samples as needed.
Transport specimens from collection areas to the laboratory while following established safety procedures.
Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers; respond to telephone inquiries promptly.
Demonstrate reliability and independent judgment, prioritizing tasks to meet departmental needs and accepting appropriate authority.
Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, and personnel policies.
Perform documentation duties, including entering demographic information, test orders, and managing sample data using computer systems.
Train and orient new employees, students, and residents; inform technical staff and supervisors of unusual incidents.
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred
Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program
Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy
Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience
Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
