UPMC Patient Care Technician, Pediatrics in Erie, Pennsylvania
UPMC Hamot is hiring a part-time Patient Care Technician to join the team on Pediatrics!

Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities:
Provides patient care, assisting with procedures and daily activities.
Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
Reports patient status changes to the RN.
Performs core nursing assistant tasks (e.g., blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care) and at least four additional tasks (e.g., phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal).
Reports equipment malfunctions and communicates effectively with other departments.
Establishes professional and respectful relationships.
Contributes to unit activities (e.g., responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients).
Receives and acts on feedback, identifies learning needs, and participates in self-review.
Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction.
May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per protocol.
Communicates clearly with the healthcare team and understands cultural diversity and workplace safety.
Adheres to patient care policies and safety procedures.
Documents patient care accurately and performs clerical functions as needed.
Participates in department projects and quality initiatives.
Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills (e.g., phlebotomy, IV removal, 12-lead EKG).

1 year of general healthcare experience, or 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days, or enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with at least one clinical rotation, or a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
Successful completion of basic information system training.
Microcomputer experience preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
EMT or Paramedic certification, or enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program preferred.
Access to medications is limited to distributing medication to the nurse."
High school diploma or equivalent.
1 year of general healthcare experience, or 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days, or enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with at least one clinical rotation, or a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class.
Successful completion of basic information system training.
Microcomputer experience preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
EMT or Paramedic certification, or enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program preferred.
Access to medications is limited to distributing medication to the nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
