JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The School of Engineering at Penn State Behrend is accepting applications for a full-time lab coordinator. The lab coordinator will be responsible for work on managing manufacturing curriculum development, curriculum optimization, training activity scheduling, and overall management of the ongoing and future materials & manufacturing workforce development programs. This lab coordinator is also responsible for developing, designing and conducting research experiments and projects in the manufacturing and experimental labs on campus as well as out in the field working with sponsors. In addition to evaluating research methods, use of equipment, and operation of equipment and analysis of data, the coordinator is also responsible for project management, maintaining, training users for safety and specific techniques and collaborating with all students, faculty, sponsors, and technicians working on the active research, workforce development, lab, and class projects.

Typical duties for this position are:

  • Perform a variety of specialized technical and program management tasks in the fields of materials and manufacturing with emphasis on materials and manufacturing workforce development (from K-12 to current college students and current manufacturing employees).

  • Provide, maintain, and update operating instructions, calibration, chemical inventories, and safety logs/ binders for specific pieces of lab equipment and technology for the materials and manufacturing research efforts ongoing.

  • Serve as liaison to IT for a variety of lab computer equipment such as laptops, iPads, Lab Requests, Lab podium computers, photographic and audio-visual equipment to ensure they function properly prior to their use in class, lab, workforce development, and for research.

  • Serve as liaison to research sponsors, Behrend Grants & Contracts office, and School of Engineering staff for scheduling, procurement/ purchasing, and bill payment.

  • Serve as liaison for materials and manufacturing research group with School of Engineering safety committee and the Penn State Behrend EHS coordinator.

  • Assist faculty and students with design of experiments. Provide technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and techniques, and the analysis of results, report creation, and project task breakdowns and management with focus on materials and manufacturing research and workforce development.

  • May provide lab instruction on use of laboratory equipment on an infrequent basis and in collaboration with ongoing workforce development activities.

  • Keep and maintain lab and research experiment records with focus on manufacturing workforce development efforts and make sure all research project Gantt Charts, PowerPoint slides, and summary documents are up to date.

This position requires a bachelor's degree and 1+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$51,000.00 - $74,000.00
