Unit: Cardiovascular, Renal Transplant, and Surgical Specialty Acute Care Unit (6 South) : a 43-bed Medical/Surgical unit, including 11 Step Down beds for higher acuity patients. It provides post-op care for Cardiothoracic, Vascular, and Gastric Bypass patients, and serves those needing telemetry or oxygen monitoring. Cares for kidney transplant and hepatobiliary surgery patients, acting as a bridge from ICU to regular care. Services include CPAP, BIPAP, Optiflow oxygen therapy, glycemic control, and more.

Sign-On Bonus Details (Full Time or Flex Full Time status)

* $20,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with over one year of experience

Overview: The Clinician is a nurse leader who plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of excellence in patient care. They serve as a role model for professional nursing practice and, under the guidance of the Unit Director or department manager, handle tasks such as employee evaluations, staff selection and hiring, and managing the daily performance of their team. The Clinician also provides education and clinical expertise to staff, including orientation, training, and consultation on practice issues. Additionally, they may be responsible for delivering nursing care during their shifts when necessary.

Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally, builds teams and relationships through mentoring and positive communication, and coaches colleagues on cultural diversity while addressing workplace horizontal violence and impairment.

  • Demonstrates accountability for safe work hours, time management, and healthy lifestyles, and is knowledgeable in performance improvement tools and techniques, continuously improving quality of care and work environment by integrating research and best practices into daily work and sharing learning from improvements across units or systems.

  • Shows interest in the development of others, positively impacting patients, families, peers, and the healthcare team through mentoring and education, acting as a preceptor for student nurses, nurse interns, and new preceptors, and mentoring and role modeling continuous learning while seeking opportunities to share expertise within and beyond the clinical unit.

  • Incorporates goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction, creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience, and disseminates new knowledge and innovations through presentations, posters, and publications.

  • Applies nursing knowledge within the framework of Relationship Based Care, uses the nursing process to meet clinical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families, demonstrates critical thinking in analyzing patient care issues, practices solid verbal and written communication skills, and ensures comprehensive patient documentation.

  • Serves as a leader in clinical nursing practice, identifying and leading opportunities for improvement, supporting staff during change and transition, practicing participatory leadership, and being active in shared leadership, while assuming formal leadership responsibilities in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and onboarding, and completing or assisting with staff performance evaluations.

  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience required. Nursing experience in a MedSurg department required.

  • Master’s degree preferred. BS/BSN required; if BS degree not in nursing, a master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.

  • Demonstrated competence as a Professional Staff Nurse.

  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and interact appropriately with patients of various ages. Understanding of growth and development principles over the life span.

  • Ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs and provide appropriate care. Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment.

  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to patient care.

  • Critical thinking skills necessary to lead others in applying the nursing process. Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within one year of hire or transfer.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) within 6 months of hire or transfer.

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 34

  • National Certification preferred.

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
