NBC Universal Manager, End User Computing (VDI) in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey

NBCUniversal is seeking an experienced and strategic Manager for Virtual Device Engineering. This role will oversee a team of engineers supporting NBCUniversal’s virtual endpoint computing environment. This role encompasses both operational activities and strategic projects and initiatives, ensuring the reliability and scalability of our virtual desktop infrastructure. The Manager will drive strategy and manage relationships with external vendors and internal application/business technology teams.

NBCUniversal’s Operations & Technology Leadership has prioritized focus on VDI strategy, and this is an exciting opportunity to be part of reshaping NBCU’s virtual endpoint computing architecture, policies and processes.

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for managing and supporting the enterprise virtual environment which includes:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of EUC specialists and support staff.

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the VDI environment in alignment with organizational goals.

  • Coordinate with other IT leaders to ensure seamless integration of virtual desktop solutions with other IT services.

  • Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of Amazon DaaS, AVD, and Windows 365 Cloud PC environments.

  • Ensure high availability, performance, and security of the VDI infrastructure.

  • Manage the lifecycle of virtual desktop resources, including provisioning, patching, and decommissioning.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for VDI technologies and best practices.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to virtual desktops.

  • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in the VDI space.

  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to optimize VDI solutions.

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including internal departments and external partners.

  • Ensure compliance with licensing agreements and regulatory requirements.

  • Implement and manage support processes to ensure timely resolution of user issue

Basic Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure management, with a focus on end user computing and VDI

  • Experience at the enterprise level managing and supporting virtual desktop and applications hosted on AWS Workspaces, Azure Virtual Desktops, VMWare Horizon Cloud, Citrix Workspace, and/or W365 Cloud environments for 5,000+ clients

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer-related field and/or years of equivalent of experience

  • 1+ years of management experience, managing a team of virtual engineers. Able to work independently and lead a team of engineers.

  • In-depth knowledge of the Windows operating systems in an enterprise environment

  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, routing protocols

  • Comfortable with IT security and compliance best practices

  • Strong virtual and software troubleshooting skills

  • Proficient in automated workstation build methodologies

  • Experience working with software packaging and deployment systems

  • Proficient in automation and scripting skills (Ansible, Bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell)

  • Experience working with AWS Workspace, VMWare Horizon Cloud, Citrix Workspace, Microsoft W365, and/or Microsoft AzureAD

  • Experience with implementing, deploying, and supporting virtual infrastructure

  • Extensive familiarity with major application configurations

  • Possesses interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with Operations, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Application, and Leadership teams along with outside parties as necessary

Desired Characteristics:

  • Relevant certifications in VDI technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty) are a plus.

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
