Amphenol Interconnect Products Design Engineering Manager in Endicott, New York

The Design Engineering Manager is responsible for managing a staff of employees within the AIPC Engineering Department, focusing on DC electrical interconnects, including but not limited to bus bars, bus ducts, power lugs, and cable/bus bar variations. This leadership position is ideal for someone with extensive experience in managing engineering teams and serving as the first point of escalation for customer inquiries and challenges. Your strategic oversight will be crucial in driving design initiatives, ensuring success, and maintaining strong relationships with our clients. Responsibilities and Duties: Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Utilize your leadership skills to guide team members through complex challenges. Customer Liaison: Act as the primary point of escalation for customer concerns and issues, ensuring timely and effective resolution while maintaining strong customer satisfaction and trust. Design Oversight: Collaborate with Sales and Customers to define product requirements, analyze objectives, and ensure alignment with technical capabilities and organizational goals. Technical Direction: Provide expert technical guidance during the development phase of new design projects and prototypes, sharing best practices and methodologies across the engineering team. Manufacturing Collaboration: Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering to identify necessary methods and tooling for new products, supporting implementation and troubleshooting as needed. Continuous Improvement: Drive ongoing support for Manufacturing on assigned product lines, championing process enhancements and addressing production challenges effectively. Qualification Development: Lead the creation of qualification test requirements for power busbar products, ensuring compliance with reliability and performance standards. Quality Assurance Partnership: Collaborate with Quality Assurance to define and implement reliability requirements for busbar products, integrating feedback into design processes. Documentation Oversight: Ensure the development of comprehensive engineering documentation to support assigned product lines and facilitate smooth execution. Supplier Interaction: Assist Purchasing with technical communications, building strong relationships with suppliers to effectively address design parameters and concerns. Compliance and Standards: Ensure all activities comply with company practices, policies, and industry standards, maintaining a high level of operational integrity. Day-to-Day Tasks: Leadership and Direction (20%)Provides leadership and direction to the staff of engineers, ensuring adherence to engineering processes to deliver high-quality designs that meet customer schedules and expectations. Work Status Monitoring (20%)Maintains close contact with the engineering team on the status of their work, communicates responsibilities for tracking progress and budget adherence, and develops action plans to resolve issues as needed. Focus on Financial and Technical Requirements (20%)Ensures that the engineering group remains focused on meeting the financial, schedule, and technical requirements of their projects. Team Development (20%)Develops the engineering group to achieve their full potential and maximum contributions to the team, creating and implementing plans to enhance employee skills, motivation, and engagement. Customer and Interdepartmental Communication (20%)Optimizes communication and relationships with customers and other AIPC functions to ensure that AIPC is the preferred provider of interconnect solutions. Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSMET), or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSMEE). 10 years in engineering roles, with extensive experience managing and leading teams in the design and manufacture of power busbars and related interconnect components. Proven track record of successfully overseeing complex design initiatives and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation within the team. Strong understanding of integrating design solutions into qualification tests and reliability parameters. Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes (laminating, stamping, plating, etc.). Exceptional ability to manage multiple priorities with precision under pressure. Proficient in SolidWorks or similar CAD software, along with analytical/modeling/simulation tools. Excellent communication, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills. In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD& T) per ANSI standards. Experience in engaging with suppliers and effectively addressing design concerns.
