PURPOSE:
School Social Workers assist school staff in developing, implementing, and evaluating services to help students and families. They help identify factors that can make school a more successful and happier experience for some students. Through the use of assessment, counseling, consultation and coordination of services, school social workers effectively serve students, parents, school, and community.\ \ RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Student Services
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Help students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district and cooperative guidelines, rules, and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district, cooperative, and community.
- Work effectively with community and social/mental health organizations.
- Appropriately operate all equipment as required.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Understand QPA standards and support others in assisting students in reaching these goals.
- Support the philosophy and mission of the cooperative and school district.
\ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Requires prolonged sitting and standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Requires some travel.
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Must be able to provide conflict resolution skills and problem solve difficult situations.
\ GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational issues.
- Provide intervention services to prevent inappropriatespecial education placement.
- Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions.
- Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and re-evaluation process.
- Participate in the development of student IEPs which support the QPA standards.
- Consult with students regarding their learning and behavior problems and counsel them as necessary.
- Work with the issues in a students living situation which are affecting the students progress and performance in school by providing group or individual counseling to the student or family.
- Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available.
- Consult with administrators and others concerning social and cultural factors which contribute to student concerns.
- Assist with communication and mediation between parents and schools.
- Assist with the integration of at risk students into thegeneral classroom.
- Collaborate with agencies serving students and their families.
- Support building to building transitions of students.
- Develop and implement project evaluation.
- Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies.
- Assist with writing grant renewals.
- Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
- See that school district and cooperative policies are observed during all activities.
- Obtain advance approval for all special activities andexpenditures.
- Assist in the implementation of Section 504 and ADA requirements.
- Assist in the implementation of IDEA. 2 . Adhere to all district and cooperative health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and ESI.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.
