National Park Service Administrative Support Assistant (OA) in Empire, Michigan
Summary The primary purpose of the position is providing administrative assistance to various divisions at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Responsibilities MAJOR DUTIES: Coordinating and scheduling meetings and events, attending meetings, and serving on appropriate work teams/groups. Serves as technical advisor to unit personnel on travel and prepares travel authorizations and vouchers using automated systems and software. Serves as advisor to the unit on procedures for the procurement of goods and services, and within delegated authority purchases supplies, equipment, and services for the unit utilizing a purchase card, or a blanket purchase agreement under micro-purchase authorities. Monitors division expenses during the year and works with Budget Analyst to reconcile division accounts. Purchases supplies, equipment, and services for the division utilizing a credit/purchase card and reconciles monthly statement. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. AREA Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is located in scenic and welcoming Northern Michigan. Known as a four-season recreation destination, the Lakeshore is within an easy one-day drive of several major population centers of the Midwest, including Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland. Housing, medical facilities, shopping, churches, banks, daycare, and recreational opportunities are readily available within a 30-mile radius from park headquarters in Empire. High temperatures average between 75-85 degrees in the summer and low temperatures average between 15-25 degrees in winter. Homes are available for purchase or for rent in the commuting area. The median home price in the area is approximately $400,000 and rental rates begin at approximately $1,700 per month for three-bedroom homes. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/29/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. Typing Requirement for both the GS-6 and GS-7 The duties of this position require the applicant to have the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. GS-6 Minimum Qualification To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess at least of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Performing clerical and administrative duties to support general administrative or human resources functions. Typing letters, memos, and other correspondence. Compiling data and maintaining confidential records. Operating various computerized information systems (e.g., QuickTime, Federal Personnel/Payroll Systems (FPPS), or similar programs). Making purchases in adherence to office policies. Maintaining property inventories and records. You must include hours per week worked. GS- 7 Minimum Qualification: To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Operating a variety of computerized information systems (e.g., QuickTime, Federal Personnel/Payroll Systems (FPPS), or similar programs). Performing various office duties, including typing correspondence, memos, reports, and forms. Making purchases in accordance with office policies. Maintaining property inventories and records and managing files. Tracking and reporting on budget and financial management. Managing travel arrangements and preparations. Assisting with workers' compensation claims or similar functions. Candidates must clearly articulate their specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level. Failure to demonstrate this experience will result in disqualification from consideration for the GS-07 position.
