The Manager Process Engineering is responsible for coordination of Process Engineering activities for the Primary Operations Elmore manufacturing operations (Melting and Casting of Be containing alloys, based in Copper, Nickel and Aluminum, Arc Furnace for conversion of Beryllium Hydroxide to Beryllium-Copper master alloy)). The responsibilities include safety, production, quality, and spending control. The holder of this position directly supervises the Process Engineering Department staff of engineers of various disciplines.
You will have the opportunity to:
Support efforts to improve safety and environmental performance by operating under the EHSMS and BMP programs.
Participate in incident investigations and recommends corrective actions by adhering to the Plant Incident Management Program.
Assist Primary Operations Manager in developing plans and objectives for the business unit.
Utilize Six Sigma methodology as the primary method of project management
Coordinate manufacturing process development activities between staff, R&D, and Sales & Marketing.
Evaluate performance of manufacturing operations and expedites actions as required to obtain maximum production efficiency.
Evaluate operations direct variable cost (DVC) and manufacturing yield and productivity performance. Recommends and implements cost reduction activities.
Support all aspects of product quality including the disposition of discrepant material. Implements corrective actions where necessary.
Provide Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to assure effective control of manufacturing processes.
Recommend and develops proposals for capital improvements.
Monitor compliance with established company policies and procedures pertaining to personnel, purchasing, environmental control, security, and health and safety.
Initiate performance appraisals of salary staff.
Create work environment that expects high performance and keeps morale high.
Lead and direct performance of the Primary Operations engineers.
Principal Working Relationships:
Complies with the plant wide expectations of improving safety performance and hygiene control programs to provide maximum protection of employees, contractors, and visitors.
Works closely with Operations Supervision to assure effective support to Manufacturing.
Works with Primary Operations Sales and Marketing relative to satisfying customer needs.
Works with Production Control personnel to establish and maintain and control production levels and inventory levels necessary to meet sales commitments.
Works with Quality Department personnel to assure compliance with pertinent Quality systems and programs (i.e. ISO 9002, AS9100, etc.).
Supports Six Sigma – Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
Works with Purchasing Department in procurement of equipment, materials, and supplies.
Provides process support to the Maintenance Department to coordinate and prioritize effective maintenance of equipment and facilities, preventative maintenance programs, and control of maintenance costs.
Provides support to the Furnace Rebuild group in selection of refractory products for use in production processes
Scope of Authority:
All functions of Process engineering within Primary Operations as derived by the Operations Manager. Sufficient authority to direct personnel.
Expenditures – Limited by the approved budget.
Personnel and Compensation – Limited by corporate HR policies, Plant HR policies and procedures in the employment, compensation, promotion, transfer, discipline, or release of subordinates.
Policies and Procedures – Limited by established company and plant policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in engineering required, advanced engineering degree or MBA desired.
Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing Green belt or Black Belt certification very desirable.
Manufacturing experience with demonstrated track record of accomplishments necessary.
Prior supervisory experience preferred.
Experience with molten metal processing strongly preferred.
The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
