Description

Production Supervisor

The Production Supervisor oversees the manufacturing of Hardinge products according to drawings, routings and standard operating procedures. This position is responsible for the supervision and safety of employees, the implementation of continuous improvement processes, and adherence to quality standards and procedures.

The requirements for this position are as follows:

EDUCATION:

An Associate’s degree in a technical area or a Bachelor’s degree in a technical area with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 5 years of production experience required. Experience with common manufacturing materials and machining processes required. Experience with Excel, JDE/Oracle (ERP), and SharePoint preferred. Strong organizational skills and excellent communication skills are required. Direct supervisory experience in manufacturing environment preferred. Machine shop experience preferred. Green belt certification preferred.

SPECIFIC TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:

  • Experience promoting safety and quality procedures as well as productivity and efficiency improvements.

  • Experience with planning functions, forecasts, demands, and lead times, and their impact on production.

  • Ability to communicate with internal and external suppliers to meet customer requirements.

  • Proficient in trouble shooting and implementing corrective action.

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager with close collaboration with various Value Stream Leaders

LOCATION: Elmira, NY

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attention to and management of, the health and welfare of the employees to ensure a safe work environment. Taking action to assess and address unsafe workspaces or practices and own the solution.

  • Maintain payroll and attendance records for all assigned employees.

  • Assign work, allocate resources, and delegate tasks to ensure the department is meeting its deliverables.

  • Lead employees and coordinate work assignments based on production requirements, creating two-way accountability between Supervision and Supervised. Set and coach to production targets while also identifying and addressing those things that challenge employees hitting those targets.

  • Evaluate the performance of employees to determine training needs.

  • Coordinate employee training and encourage employee development for flexibility in meeting our production demands.

  • Manage production schedules including making reschedule decisions based on dynamic shop conditions.

  • Collaborate with other Production Supervisors and Operations Managers for continued efficient and effective manufacturing processes and solving of problems.

  • Implement and manage any engineering changes to production standards.

  • Ensure accountability by issuing coaching or discipline for failure to adhere to Hardinge Inc. policies.

  • Provide periodic (3-4 times per calendar year) weekend coverage to support overtime needs of the operation.

PAY RANGE: $70,000-$80,000.00 Salary Exempt
