Description

Operations Manager

Operations Manager is responsible for managing and executing all aspects of the Annual Operating Plan related to Elmira operations. Other responsibilities include identifying variances to the plan and generating strategies for mitigating those variances. The position encompasses the management of all disciplines related to the day-to-day functioning of the operation team including production, maintenance, quality control, shipping and receiving, inventory and Capex along with related support functions.

The requirements for this position are as follows:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree and five years related experience and/or training; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred experience should be related to the Workholding, special machine building, or tool cutting industries.

EXPERIENCE:

5 or more years of experience in Workholding, special machine building, or tool cutting industries, strong communication skills, proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Working knowledge of an ERP system required, JDE experience preferred.

SPECIFIC TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions. In-depth knowledge and application of advanced mathematical skills in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.

  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and apply common scientific and technical information from journals, business periodicals, and similar sources including State and Federal laws, regulations, and legislation existing or pending. Effectively present information to non-company manufacturing and sales personnel, Forkardt, and outside management.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries from Forkardt employees and other personnel in an effective and satisfactory manner.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions as required to carry out job responsibilities.

  • Key competencies include ability to manage stress, adaptability, conflict resolution, negotiation, teamwork, delegation, influencing, leading, persuasiveness, effective communication, confident decision making, planning, organizing, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Internally motivated to strive for excellence in performing all the essential duties of the position.

LOCATION: Elmira, NY (Hardinge Plant- On Site Position)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage manufacturing operations, non-exempt production personnel, and management teams.

  • Lead safety efforts within the facility, adhere to all federal, state, and local requirements.

  • Oversee financial data such as overhead and direct labor absorption. Prepare and oversee operational budgets, monitor inventory levels.

  • Partner with upper and peer management to develop Annual Operation Plan, Operation Strategy, and other budget, inventory, and human capital needs to achieve operational results. Design, implement, and manage operations activities that satisfy organizational commitments and achieve company goals.

  • Manage departmental communications, provide timely updates to both senior management and production floor. Promote informational transparency throughout the team.

  • Administer best practices, adhere to company policies and procedures; contribute to the maximization of overall company performance. Develop, implement, and attain departmental objectives within established time frames and cost projections.

  • Implement cost effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, maintenance, utilization, and productivity.

  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPI’s) for production, delivery, and quality measures. Implement plans to mitigate variances.

  • Establish controls for expense overruns such as labor overtime hours, shipping and repair expenses, machine downtime, material scrap, etc.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure effective maintenance of existing manufacturing tools and equipment. Create annual capital requests for projects and expenditures that support operation’s needs, oversee the implementation of tools/equipment as approved. Monitor the use of existing plant equipment.

  • Provide effective direction, mentoring, and development of production personnel and management, ensure the right talent is in place for production needs through effective selection, training, and development by the supervisory staff.

  • Establish workforce standards for maintenance and cleanliness of tools, equipment, and facilities essential for effective job performance.

  • Develop and strengthen vendor relationships and agreements, establish cost effective strategies and outsourcing of engineered, manufactured, and purchased products.

SALARY RANGE: $90,000.00-$125,000.00, Salary Exempt
