Jabil Elmira produces a broad portfolio of orthopedic products instruments and implants for internal and external fixation to surgically treat fractures, deformities and tumor diseases of long bones, shoulder, hand, pelvis, hip, condyles and foot. Additionally, Elmira manufactures veterinary plates and patient-specific implants (Jaw plates), which are shipped directly to hospitals

JOB SUMMARYResponsible for leading a team providing Engineering support to Manufacturing Operations and contributing towards key business drivers such as Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. Medical manufacturing environment primarily focused on machining operations including Swiss lathe machining, Vertical CNC mills, and pressing/forming.OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises a team which may consist of Engineers, Engineering Technicians and Interns/Co-ops, and is responsible for employee performance management and professional development.

  • Leads talent development of team members through coaching, mentoring, training and personalized developments plans.

  • Provides day-to-day hands-on Engineering support in areas such as, turning, milling, drilling, EDM, finishing, packaging, laser etch, etc. as required.

  • Supports day-to-day operations through attendance at CAC meetings and weekly attendance at TIC/QIC/MIC/PMIC meetings, driving timely closure of action items.

  • Tracks and addresses trends in scrap, consumable usage, non-conformance, etc.

  • Drives identification, planning and execution of projects in support of key business objectives.

  • Examples: CAPEX, cost improvement, automation, safety, new product launches, etc.

  • Provides timely and accurate reporting on project activities ensuring projects are delivered to agreed scope, schedule, costs and level of quality.

  • Leads activities related to the development of new or improved processes including researching current and emerging technologies, evaluating process cost, quality, and capability alternatives.

  • Supports new equipment acquisition efforts including user requirement specifications, machine selection, installation, validation, employee training, and other related equipment responsibilities.

  • Supports development of work instructions and other control processes and practices.

  • Ensure all process development and validation activities within the team are managed in accordance with the Quality Management Systems.

  • Leads team in root cause problems solving and drives practical and cost-effective solutions.

  • Represents Engineering in Kaizen and Lean 6 Sigma events and ensures timely completion of tasks.

  • Ensures timely closure of Quality actions such as Audit Actions, NCR’s, CAPA’s across the team.

  • Facilitates collaboration between cross functional teams including associates in Engineering, Product Development, Operations, Regulatory, Quality Assurance, Planning, Materials, etc.

  • Manages relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Manages vendor selection and ensures onsite work is fully compliant with site safety requirements.

  • Coordinates with internal and external customers and acts as Jabil representative.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree from accredited institution in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related degree.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3 years of experience in manufacturing and/or engineering is required.

  • 2 years of experience in a supervisory or cross-functional project manager role preferred.

  • Previous experience working in a regulated industry, such as Medical Device is preferred.

  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills and the ability to make effective decisions.

  • Demonstrates strong organizational and project management skills and are results oriented.

  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills and professional interactions with coworkers.

  • Demonstrates strong written, verbal and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrates strong understanding of compliance related activities pertaining to the job.

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of hands on application of engineering principles for fixturing, gaging, tooling, programming, etc.

  • Demonstrates strong understanding process development, effective and efficient navigation of quality system requirements for qualification of new and/or improved processes.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Supports and operates in a proactive safety environment.

  • Follows all laws and policies as they apply to one's job and maintains the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times.

  • Must be willing to support global projects including some travel.

  • Must be willing to support 2nd and 3rd shifts.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The pay range for this role is $77,523 - $139,541. Job-related, non-discriminatory factors used to determine the actual offered rate include qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
