Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies with a combined annual operating budget of approximately $63 million that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. Goddard Riverside and The Isaacs Center are two of New York City’s leading human services organizations meeting the needs of children, youth and families, homeless individuals, and older adults throughout Manhattan and New York City. Pathways for Youth is an effort to help young adults reach age 24 prepared to be self-sustaining by providing a primary adult support to coach and assist in life planning and navigation over multiple years.
Program Description:The Baxter Safe Haven is a transitional housing residence for homeless adults, many with mental illness. Goddard Riverside Community Center is committed to building community and enhancing the lives of vulnerable New Yorkers by meeting essential human needs. With 27 programs across 22 sites, Goddard Riverside is an advocate for the interests of our community members, as well as a provider of a continuum of vital services, including food and shelter programs, assistance for homeless and mentally ill men and women, and comprehensive educational, cultural and recreational programs for adults and children.
Purpose of Position:Assist tenants in the development of daily independent living skills, including assisting with laundry, personal hygiene and providing meals • Maintain attendance and monitor status of clients • Receive meal deliveries and maintain kitchen • Perform client intakes and provide an orientation of the facility at check in • Document intakes, bed swaps, attendance and incident reports via CARES.
Schedule:Per Diem
Hourly Rate:$19.00
Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties
Perform daily room and bed inspections
Escort client to appointments
Assist in the monitoring and development of resident’s daily independent living skills
Provide resident welcome kits and toiletry items
Perform nightly bed counts
Heat and serve meals
Conflict resolution between residents
Manage operations desk
Answer phones when necessary
Help maintain the cleanliness of the building
Monitor common areas to ensure proper usage
Work collaboratively with building staff to assist tenants and ensure tenant safety.
Qualifications/ Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree preferred
1 year of applicable experience in shelter or residential setting
Passion for working with individuals and families who are in transitional housing
Excellent communication skills, comfortable working with others
Ability to maintain accurate records, to prepare and submit all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner Knowledge of DHS requirements and protocols
Ability to deal with sensitive issues with diplomacy and discretion
Must be able to multi task with strong organizational skills
Food Protection Certificate will be required
Driver’s License preferred
Bilingual is a plus
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Prior work experience with homeless/ mentally ill individuals is helpful, but not required
Computer Literate

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be:
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, OneDrive Excel, etc.
Able to use or learn multiple databases including CARES
Physical Requirements:
Frequent bending, kneeling, walking, climbing and lifting to 50 lbs.
