UnitedHealth Group Financial Analyst - Optum West - Hybrid in CA or NV locations or Remote considered in El Segundo, California

Optum West is seeking a financial analyst with exceptional Excel proficiency, strong quantitative skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. This role focuses on supporting the Shared Services functions and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) planning across Optum West.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. Hybrid in El Segundo, CA or Las Vegas, NV is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare consolidated financial budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to support Optum West’s Shared Services and IT business objectives, with a key focus on Cap Ex planning and analysis

  • Leverage advanced Excel skills to prepare and analyze financial data, including variance analyses, to explain trends in Shared Services and CapEx, while providing actionable recommendations for process improvement and P&L optimization

  • Collaborate on annual corporate budget formation and quarterly forecast processes, guiding interdepartmental planning with a strong emphasis on CapEx strategy for Shared Services

  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ad-hoc financial reporting, and presentations to various division leaders across Optum West, utilizing Excel for advanced modeling and reporting for both Shared Services and capital planning

  • Manage financial systems and software to aid in account reconciliations, reporting, data validation, and analysis, with a focus on improving CapEx reporting and Shared Services financial processes

  • Consistently demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills while interacting with internal stakeholders across Shared Services, ensuring high-quality financial support

  • Monitor and report on actual costs versus projections, with a focus on tracking and optimizing Shared Services expenditures and CapEx performance

  • Participate in quarterly expense and capital forecasting by collaborating with key stakeholders, compiling and analyzing financial data, presenting results, and monitoring performance against plan, specifically within the Shared Services department

  • Perform additional ad-hoc duties as assigned, including Shared Services-related financial tasks and CapEx reporting

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in a quantitative discipline

  • 1+ years of experience with Bachelors or Master’s in Finance or Accounting

  • Proficiency in Excel with a focus on advanced functions such as pivot tables, macros, and complex formulas. Strong PowerPoint skills for presenting financial data

  • Solid working knowledge of accounting concepts, including accruals, capitalization, depreciation, and general expense concepts

  • Solid communication skills with experience presenting to management

  • Ability to produce high-quality work that is accurate, presentable, and defendable

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines

  • Solid willingness to learn and collaborate cross-functionally with a wide range of stakeholders, particularly with clinical staff and Shared Services

  • Ability to work independently and use sound judgement

  • Open to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience evaluating and improving financial processes, particularly within Shared Services and CapEx planning

  • Experience with Project Reporting/Project Financial Management

  • Familiarity with Anaplan, Planful, PowerBI, Essbase, PeopleSoft, or ERP and forecasting tools is a plus

  • Prior experience in healthcare or information technology is a plus

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
