Position Description:

Provides primary care as part of a health care team in an inpatient Neurology and Neuro ICS setting in a particular discipline. Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment. May participate in teaching programs for students and other student residents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and home visits, and participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the patient care in the Neurocritical Care and Neuro ICS setting.

  • Works under the direction of the supervising physicians and in cooperation with U.M.C. based staff and clinical providers to improve upon unit specific and or hospital wide patient care and family satisfaction.

  • Duties in the inpatient unit to assist faculty/physician neurologists.

  • Works in cooperation with physicians and resident physician teams in ordering and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that aid in diagnosing medical encounters while prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality driven patient care; documents all normal and any abnormal data for review by physicians.

  • Duties in the inpatient setting to include conducting and scheduled/unscheduled outpatient encounters (with physician back-up) involving a wide variety of neurological disorders-primary epilepsy, Parkinsonism, and neuromuscular diseases.

  • Responsible for patient notes.

  • Ensures all notes are completed and in compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations, adheres to polices set forth by hospital and institution for patient care and billing process.

  • Adhere to all TTUHSCEP polices, procedures and processes.

  • Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSCEP's values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork).

  • Actively promote and encourage staff across the institution.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year experience in Critical Care/Acute Care patient care.

  • Bilingual competence in English and Spanish.

  • Eligible for Delegated Prescriptive Authorization through the Texas Board of Nursing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program

  • Current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas

  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners

  • Recognition by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners as an Advance Practitioner

  • ACNP or AGACNP Certification.
