Position Summary
The Network Engineer in Refining Network Operations will be responsible for providing network and technical support for the refinery’s business network servers and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of business needs and be able to translate those needs into effective solutions. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to address challenges and develop solutions. The candidate will also play a key role in promoting compliance and driving change initiatives to enhance the reliability and security of infrastructure services. Adherence to refinery safety protocols is a fundamental expectation of this role.
This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
Assists with the installation of network components following MPC standards. Participates in software upgrades and configuration support of network devices.
Performs network administration such as network infrastructure installs, configuration management, network problem analysis and resolution, and log analysis.
Conducts troubleshooting sessions for network-related issues.
Responds to calls and tickets for troubleshooting from the technical services group. Responds to issues and highlights recurring issues and patterns.
Performs root cause analysis of network problems and tracks, documents and reports identified patterns.
Prepares and reviews documentation including network diagrams.
Performs routine and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure uninterrupted and optimum system performance.
Execute system administration and other recurring tasks, including network device maintenance and back-ups.
Delivers system support to users and serves as a liaison to vendor technical staff.
Education and Experience
Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience required.
2+ years of relevant experience required.
Oil and Gas experience preferred

Network Administration – Organizing, installing, and supporting the organization's computer systems, including local area networks LANs), wide area networks (WANs), network segments, intranets, and other data communication systems.
Network Automation – Automating the configuration and management of network resources in LAN and WAN environments. This ensures consistency and scalability of the network.
Network Design – Provided network design, bandwidth allocation, IP address allocation, supervising installation, configuration and maintenance on major network technologies.
Network Engineering – The process of orchestrating network traffic and data flow across the enterprise ecosystem.
Network Installations – Configure network hardware and software components according to organizational guidelines and technical requirements. This includes the implementation and configuration of multiple servers, network devices and network management tools as well as the management of user network access to ensure stable and reliable network operations.
Network Management System – The use of network monitoring to determine, in real time, whether a network is running optimally, to optimize and improve the average percentage of time during which the network is performing its intended function.
Network Security Management – The process of providing complete visibility into the network and generating data for assets (asset groupings and classifications), firewalls, applications, ports, protocols, VPNs, NAT, and security policies and vendor devices.
Network Standards – Sets and establishes rules that determine how data is transmitted between different devices in the same network.
Requirements Management – The process of documenting, analyzing, tracing, prioritizing and agreeing on requirements and then controlling change while also communicating to relevant stakeholders.
Results Driven – Drives operational and process excellence and innovative behavior by empowering others, collaborating, taking appropriate risk, making timely decisions and holding people accountable for results.
Strategic Outlook – Examines issues, generates ideas, creates future scenarios and develops plans with a long-term perspective. Ensures short-term goals support long-term strategy and that organizational/functional strategy aligns with and supports MPC’s overall business strategy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.3+ years of relevant experience
