Armed Services YMCA of The U S A Child Care Teacher’s Assistant/Part-time in El Paso, Texas

ASYMCA seeks an experienced part-time assistant teacher who will play an important role in the direction for the children in the classroom and assist with the implementation of program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement (https://yexchange.org/Well-Being/Pages/Achievement.aspx) and belonging (https://yexchange.org/Well-Being/Pages/Belonging.aspx) in youth and relationships (https://yexchange.org/Well-Being/Pages/Relationships.aspx) among youth and within families.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Under the supervision of the Child Development Center Director at ASYMCA-El Paso, the Assistant Teacher will have the following responsibilities, including, but not limited to:

 

  • Assist teacher(s) in developing and preparing plans outlining learning experiences and activities for a group of children.

  • Take an active role in the development of performance objectives, implement and monitor programming to meet desired outcomes.

  • Implement the children’s learning programs to meet the needs, special interest of children in accordance with the lesson plan.

  • Responsible for the safety of the children, including understanding and being able to implement emergency procedures as necessary.

  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings to meet the continuing education requirements established by the licensing office.

  • Interact positively with the children at all times to include breakfast, lunch and dinner, snack time, group activity, and outdoor time.

  • Play a key role in the development of short and long-term plans for programs and activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.

  • Participate in special events, field trips and special programs.

  • Must have clean driving record and have current valid drivers license.

  • Must be able to drive cargo van and or 15-passenger bus as needed.

  • Understand and maintain compliance with state regulations and inspections procedures, as well as policies and procedures as outlined in the staff handbook.

  • Support the programs and mission of the ASYMCA.

  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

     

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED.

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.

  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-propriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

  • Any combination of educational and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration of this position.

     

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS

     

  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.

  • Position is physically demanding and requires constant bending, stooping, and lifting (15lbs), as well as walking and standing; must be willing to assist in moving household items and furniture.

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Eligible for PTO after 90-days.

Eligible for incentive bonuses after 90 days.
