Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Sheriff and/or Undersheriff, the Clerk III performs entry-level clerical duties consisting of typing, filing, and simple math calculations. This employee will have direct contact with the public both in person and by telephone. Duties follow department policies and procedures and detailed instructions are given on new assignments. The employee in this position will handle highly confidential information. This position requires a criminal background check. Provides information and assistance to public on government agency programs and procedures: Explains regulations, agency policies, form completion procedures, obtain required documents and eligibility requirements for receiving benefits. Analyses information uses knowledge of rules, regulations, and precedent decisions to determine action.

Job Duties:

100% -

Answers phone and directs calls to appropriate personnel.\ Assists citizens with concerns, complaints, and questions when appropriate.\ Handles incoming and outgoing mail.\ Handles civil process returns.\ Handles request for reports.\ Maintains civil process papers and records; ensures all reports are accurate and distributes to correct parties.\ Maintains Concealed Carry applications, disbursements and qualifications, processes Concealed Carry with NCIC background check entering Protection from Abuse and Protection from Stalking Orders.\ Receives and processes Ex-Parte and Care and Treatment Orders from the court, ensures accuracy and distributes to correct parties.\ Maintains record of fees received for reports, civil process, conceal carry and makes deposits with County Treasurer.\ Makes case jackets for motor vehicle accidents.\ Posts traffic citations and reviews for accuracy in record management system computer.\ Types and files forms, records, and reports.\ Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required.

Knowlege, Skills and Abilities:

Clerk III -

Knowledge of legal process. Office procedures, office machines, and telephone answering skills.\ Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.\ Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.\ Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.\ Ability to follow oral and written instructions.\ Ability to operate computer and other office related equipment.\ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.\ Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties.\ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.\ Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.\ Knowledge of general office practices and procedures with good typing skills.\ Knowledge of legal terms.\ Skill in interpersonal communication with the public and fellow employees.\ Skill in mathematics.
