Northrop Grumman Defense Systems, Logistics and Fabrication Solutions (LFS) Operating Unit (OU) is seeking an Staff Systems Engineer to join our team at our El Dorado Hills, CA facility. Our team provides customers with support specializing in the development of a novel turbine based power generator and pure digital power distribution electronics. The NGC Intelligent Power Management System (IPMS) team is developing novel energy production solutions for national security and military. The Systems engineer will be the lead systems / chief engineer for the IPMS Program. The candidate will be responsible for the technical direction and execution of all aspects of engineering on the program including design, development, implementation, integration and testing of products to the customer. The Chief Engineer is the technical leader for the program engineering team, and also serves as technical advisor to the program manager and Principal Investigator. The Chief Engineer is typically the primary technical point-of-contact to the customer. The Chief Engineer coordinates across the program’s Systems Engineering team and other engineering teams. The Chief Engineer ensures that all engineering teams adhere to sound engineering processes, in accordance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, a team player, and possess the ability to research and effectively resolve technical issues both independently and as part of a large multi-disciplined team. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as interpersonal skills in order to coordinate with a variety of disciplines are also essential. This position requires the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt quickly to frequently changing requirements. The candidate will be required to effectively and efficiently work at offsite locations that may require travel.

Basic Qualifications for Staff Systems Engineer

  • Minimum of 14 years of direct relevant experience with B.S degree; Minimum of 12 years of direct relevant experience with Masters degree; Minimum of 10 years of direct relevant experience with PhD

  • Experience in gathering requirements, leading exercises or demonstrations.

  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

  • Maintain existing operations procedures up-to-date to also include lessons learned from real-time performance.

  • Develop new procedures as required.

  • Interface with program and customer personnel.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills

  • Experience performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S Department of Defense (DoD) Secret level security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in development and earned value management of cost accounts and schedules as related to Systems Engineering tasks

  • Experience with Model Based Engineering (MBE) concepts and tools (CAMEO)

  • Working knowledge of Simulink, Matlab and LabVIEW tools

  • Agile development experience a plus

  • Ability and willingness to travel 25%

  • Current DOD secret security clearance

Salary Range: $165,000 - $247,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
