Job Description
Summary
The purpose of this job is to perform mechanical fleet maintenance services for company trucks and trailers from a physical shop location or designated mobile unit.
Essential Functions
Complete preventive and routine maintenance services on company trucks and trailers according to manufacturer guidelines and DOT regulations, under the supervision and direction of the management and administrative staff
Prepare trucks for inspection following company guidelines
Obtain parts from vendors for maintenance repair jobs as needed
Respond to maintenance service call requests, whether onsite or offsite, to diagnose and repair cause of vehicle malfunction
Examine vehicle to determine the type of service needed, relay information to Service Writer for creation/update of repair order (RO)
Document work performed in electronic recordkeeping system; include any additional services needed but not performed during service visit
Maintain service truck to include cleaning, organizing side boxes, stocking truck, and performing minor service repairs
Ensure the security of assets and inventory for the location and service vehicle
Replace tires and respond to roadside calls regarding tire repair as needed following all safety practices and procedures
Clean shop areas and maintain organized and safe work spaces
Perform preventive maintenance, tire services, and other maintenance tasks such as:
Oil change and preventive maintenance services on petroleum cargo tank heavy duty trucks and trailers, and auxiliary power units (APU)
Gear box changes
Cooling system drain/flush and service
24-hour emergency road service
Wheel end work of brakes, bearings, races, wheel seal, hubcaps, s-cam bushings, slack adjusters, etc.
Removal and installation of new, used and retread tires
Heavy duty HVAC diagnosis, part replacement, and evacuation and recharge of system
Belt and hose replacement
Electrical system diagnosis including performing minor wiring repairs, incandescent or LED light repairs, removing and replacing starter, battery, and alternator
Drive train repairs including drive line, u-joint, carrier bearing, clutch, transmission, and differential installations
Exhaust repairs including mufflers, flex pipe, u-clamps and exhaust clamps
Suspension work including shocks, springs, shackles, bushings and air bags
Diagnose and repair of power take off (PTO) driven hydraulic pump systems
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform repair using diagnostic software and other tools available to include but not limited to engine, anti-lock braking, overfill prevention, after-treatment and drivetrain components
Repairs or tasks related to earned Automobile Service Excellence (ASE) certification
Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level
Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Complete other duties as assigned
Pay Rates Starting between: $25.85 - $42.70 / hour
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certificate required
OSHA Forklift Certification preferred; required post-hire
Minimum of three ASE certifications preferred; obtain a minimum of three ASE certifications required post-hire
Minimum one year’s experience in truck or automotive service business required
Certified to perform DOT, mid trip, tire analysis and Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) inspections required
Minimum one year’s experience with using engine diagnostic software required
Valid state driver’s license required; Class A Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) preferred
Specialized Knowledge
Basic Microsoft Office skills required; intermediate Microsoft Office skills preferred
Knowledge of using RO electronic recordkeeping system to clock in and out on repairs preferred
Knowledge of truck components and truck preventative maintenance

Travel
- Travel required is less than 25%
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Lift up to 50 pounds
Use a hand-truck to move objects up to 200 pounds
Squat, climb, bend and stand for extended periods of time on a daily basis
Exposure to various weather conditions and temperatures
Work around MSDS and DOT placard-controlled materials
Work around trucks, trailers and petroleum hauling equipment
