Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is searching for a highly motivated and proven individual to join us as the Manager R&D, Mechatronics. In this role, you will have the chance to manage a team of roughly 20 engineers specialized in control systems design, thermal and dynamical control, and modeling. Together, we are focused on developing groundbreaking technologies and software, empowering us to deliver innovative Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) to our global markets and customers.

As the Manager of the Mechatronics team, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the team's competences, in alignment with the other TEM Solutions departments. You will lead the strategy for talent development, goal setting, performance evaluations, and organization of trainings. Additionally, you will provide effort estimations and allocate team members to support various project portfolios. Your role will also involve recognizing opportunities for improvements within the team, collaborations, and processes, and successfully implementing them.

Qualifications

  • A university degree (MSc or PhD) in Mechatronics/Mechanical/Systems/Electrical Engineering or related field is required.

  • Typically requires project management experience with at least 2-3 cycles of hardware and software development activities from design/requirements to sustaining phase. Typically requires demonstrated experience in people management.

  • Ability to lead a team at the technical level and across technical fields (mechatronics, electrical, mechanical, systems and software engineering) towards delivering a new system. Advanced knowledge on a broad area of Electron Microscopy related technologies is preferred, but relevant experience in other highly complex industries will be considered.

  • Knowledge of the Design for Six Sigma methodology (or other first time right and quantified development approach) is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent skills in persuading, inspiring, developing and motivating are required in the interaction with other people.
