The Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries and ultimately change the world. We design, manufacture, and support a broad range of high-performance microscopy and spectroscopy workflows on wafers and single chips that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. We combine hardware and software expertise in electron and ion microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets. Our worldwide Electron Microscopy colleagues are dedicated to our customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.

How will you make an impact?

As an Operations Engineer, you will join a motivated and hardworking team in Eindhoven working with our ground-breaking Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM). This position will play a key role to support the scaling up of electron beam source manufacturing according to the company’s product roadmap.

You will improve products and internal processes during the sustaining phase of parts and modules. You will also closely work together with our suppliers in the supply chain and adequately resolving technical issues. You support the introduction of new technology into the factory. By developing relationships and close collaboration with Manufacturing, Service, Quality, R&D, Logistics, Sourcing and PLM to ensure the development of sustainable products meeting the latest quality standards, at lowest COGS and in line with the best strategy throughout the life cycle of a product.

What will you do?

  • Provides technical support to the factory, to ensure that Thermofisher Scientific is capable of shipping high quality products on-time to its customers.

  • Creating and maintaining work instructions and defining way of working (factory process flow)

  • Supports suppliers with engineering expertise.

  • Adheres to work safety, hygiene of work and other regulatory standards.

  • Submits/drives engineering changes to improve quality, manufacturability, costs of parts/modules

  • Ensures that activities are carried out according to the principle of “First time right with the customer in mind”.

  • Develops close relationships with Manufacturing, Logistics, Sourcing, service, PLM, Quality and New Product Development to adequately resolve technical conflicts.

  • Acts as an advisor to peers and project resources to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.

  • Supports factory and field service engineers with first builds, installs and upgrades of newly introduced systems and modules to ensure proper working order.

  • Facilitates and leads multi-functional Operations projects from inception to completion.

  • Solves technical problems and ensures that system specifications are met in compliance with the requirements for product shipment to customers

  • Provides input or participate in NPI projects according to Product Management Process (PMP).

  • Collect project requirements from customers and drives these to implementation in the NPI projects to enable our strategy goals.

  • Designs, realizes, validates and implements test tools, in-house and at supplier locations.

How will you get there?

  • Typically requires more than 5 years of experience of which at least 3 years in the field of Engineering (in a hi-tech manufacturing environment); Knowledge and/or experience with electron microscopy is a huge plus

  • Bachelor/Master's degree in a technical field, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills. Equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • Ability to cope with the dynamics in a manufacturing environment

  • Proficiency in creating comprehensive documentation and engineering reports using widely used Microsoft Office and Acrobat applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and resolve issues involving diverse groups and sites.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with an eye for discerning details

  • Excellent English language skills (verbal and in writing), Dutch is a huge plus

  • Business communication skills with a "can do" mentality

  • Knowledge about Statistical engineering would be advantageous

  • Ability to manage projects with demonstrated project management skills
