Amentum Machinist Maintenance: Eglin AFB in Eglin AFB, Florida

Classification Description

Designs, fabricates, and machines precision tools, components, and assemblies for aircraft and related Support Equipment (SE). Advises about metals machining and designs, manufactures, or modifies special precision tools, gauges, dies, and fixtures to facilitate metal working operations. Performs metals technology shop calculations, such as determining cutting speeds and settings and preheat and post heat requirements. Uses manual and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) metalworking machines, mills, and lathes to manufacture and repair cams, gears, slots, and keyways for aircraft components and SE. Writes programs for CNC machines using Computer-Aided Design­Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD-CAM) methods. Checks completed components and determines serviceability in accordance with drawings and specifications.

Disassembles, assembles, and fits component parts using machine screws, bolts, rivets, press fits, and welding techniques. Uses metal-working equipment, tools, and supplies to produce surface­finishing specifications for components. Extracts broken or damaged hardware. Checks components for wear tolerances using precision measuring devices. Maintains and inspects hand tools and metal­working machinery. Required to perform assigned tasks within your work center that directly supports necessary functions of this job classification.

Specialty Qualifications

a. Knowledge . Knowledge of metal repair and fabrication processes and composition of metals and machinable materials is mandatory. Knowledge of mechanical drawings and the use of precision measuring devices and tools is mandatory. Knowledge of hazardous rays and fumes and the proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials is mandatory. Knowledge of MIS (CAMS/IMDS) and desktop computer operations and use is mandatory. Must have working knowledge of Air Force supply procedures to look up, place orders, receive and maintain parts and materials to complete assigned work.

b. Education. Completion of high school with courses in shop mathematics and metalworking or mechanical drawing is desirable. Completion of advanced metals technology course is mandatory.

c. Experience . Qualification as Machinist Technician is mandatory. A minimum of five years of experience performing functions, such as boring, milling, shaping, and grinding metal to fine tolerances and using precision measuring devices, is mandatory.

Special Certifications and Qualifications required for position

Must have a minimum of four (4) years documented experience, preferably within the last ten (10) years, on F-15 or F-16, aircraft or a combination thereof. SECRET CLEARANCE REQUIRED.
