Kanaan Communications, LLC Mechanic in Effingham, Illinois
At Jansen Cable Construction , as a Mechanic, you’ll perform maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on the company’s fleet of vehicles and equipment. You’ll ensure all vehicles operate safely and efficiently, in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
What you’ll do as a Mechanic
Determine repair or maintenance plans for vehicles and equipment based on cost/benefit analysis
Conduct diagnostics to troubleshoot failures in vehicles and equipment
Inspect and provide strategic recommendations for proactive maintenance
Follow work procedures for the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment
Dismantle, repair, and reassemble vehicles, trailers, and heavy equipment such as trackhoes, backhoes, and other specialized machinery
Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, brake inspections, and tire rotations
Ensure vehicles are clean and fueled at all times
Operate and test vehicles and equipment to ensure proper functioning
Maintain a clean and orderly workspace
Other duties as assigned
As required by Illinois regulation, the pay range for this position if performed in Illinois is $22-24 hourly.
What you’ll need
To be 18 years of age or older
Authorization to work in the United States for this company
High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
Valid state driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record
Mechanics may be expected to provide their own standard tools. The shop will supply large-diameter and specialty tools as needed
A minimum of 1 year experience as a mechanic, preferably with a focus on fleet vehicles or commercial equipment
Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Proficient in diagnostic tools and equipment
Physical abilities & exposures
Routinely: Climb stairs, lift between 26 and 55 pounds, bend, stoop, fine hand motion, squeeze, stand, use portable ladder, walk, work in confined spaces, work with arms above shoulder level, operate heavy machinery and vehicles
Occasionally: use keyboard & mouse, lift greater than 55 pounds, work alone in remote locations, and at heights
