Description
The position is responsible for fabricating, modifying, installing, troubleshooting and repair of avionics systems, wiring in aircraft and ground support equipment in accordance with established technical specifications, engineering instructions, wiring diagrams and FAA regulations for the ER-2. Fabricates, installs and tests installation, routing, clamping and wiring harnesses. Reads wiring diagrams and blueprints. Experience in the use of common hand and special tools/testers as required to perform avionics maintenance tasks. Must have in-depth working knowledge of ER-2 procedures and safety directives. Performs aircraft avionics/electronics systems and components, Electro/Environmental, and associated component repair and maintenance. Conducts fault isolation, repairs, removal and replacement of components to resolve avionics or electrical discrepancies. Completes scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of avionics on ER-2 aircraft. Supports maintenance and repair of Mission Support Equipment as necessary.
Requirements
The qualified applicant must have and be knowledgeable of aircraft systems and maintenance practices experience, as well as:
be able to efficiently interface with Lead Avionics Technician
be Experienced with fabrication of wire installations
be Experienced with all aspects of military specification connectors and contact termination
have the capability and ability to trouble-shoot avionics and instrumentation systems
possess communication skills required to efficiently and effectively interface and coordinate with Operations engineers and other technically qualified personnel
have an in-depth knowledge of and an ability to use aircraft technical publications-read, interpret, follow and basic comprehension of schematic diagrams, drawings, and charts.
have a working knowledge of and an ability to input and extract data from maintenance database technology.
be capable of working in confined spaces
be able to work in the established work/living environment to include shifts as assigned, travel as part of maintenance recovery team and support CONUS and OCONUS deployments as required.
be able to perform operational checks, system adjustments and troubleshooting of communications, electronics and navigation systems as required.
be customer oriented.
have in-depth working knowledge of aircraft safety directives.
Qualifications
Five (5) years’ experience on ER-2 (U-2) aircraft – Preferred, three (3) years - Required
S. Citizenship - Required
High School Degree or GED - required Valid State Driver’s License - Required
FAA Radio/Instrument Repairman Certificate and /or FCC Radio and Telephone Operator (RTO) Certificate - Preferred
Ability to travel up to 25%

Physical Demands:This maintenance classification activity is usually accomplished in a flight line-like environment with extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching and walking demands. May require lifting of objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close and peripheral vision, and acceptable depth perception. Work Environment: The diversity of working conditions range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards, exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards exist.
