Stantec Principal Mechanical Engineer - Hydropower in Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Due to our ongoing success we are rapidly growing and seek a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions.

You will join a growing team of mechanical and electrical engineers working closely with our multi-disciplinary teams. You will design, develop and support the testing of mechanical systems for hydropower and pumped storage hydro projects, including some or all of; turbines, pumps, generators and control systems.
As a Principal, you will take line management responsibility for some members of the team, support business growth and strategy development and be take ownership of project deliverables.
Your role on projects include traditional advisory, Owner’s Engineer, client facing concept design, contractor facing detailed design, remediation and troubleshooting, installation support and Lender’s engineer / insurance / due diligence support.
You will be responsible for working and liaising with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the projects and community. You will help lead the team, acting as a mentor or guide to less experienced members.

About You
You will be Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred. Specific experience in mechanical design of hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems is a must. Mechanical experience in other sectors, particularly elsewhere within the Energy and Water sectors is advantageous.
You will be experienced in producing technical specifications, power and energy calculations, schedules, reports and familiar with collaborative reviews and designs of solutions.
You will have strong communication skills to give technical presentations to clients and other design engineers as well as inputting into collaborative design discussions including technical workshops.
You should be comfortable working within a full 3D environment using appropriate tools to sketch and review models and within a common data environment.
The ability and willingness to travel throughout the UK is preferred and internationally is of interest.
