About this role

Aladdin Data is responsible for enterprise data and analytics for BlackRock and its Aladdin clients. We also develop and operate the platforms that produce, distribute, and govern enterprise data and analytics. Our goal is a largely automated, cloud-native platform that radically transforms our data and analytics supply chain, making it faster, easier, and cheaper to discover, access, and leverage data and analytics for asset management.

As a Senior Data Governance Advisor on the BlackRock Aladdin Data Governance Team, you will be responsible for working with our data modelers, stewardship & senior business partners in Aladdin’s investment and risk analytics data domain, driving critical data governance and data modernization efforts across BlackRock’s analytics data platform to ensure data is delivered with the highest standard of quality and scale. In addition, you will partner with other data stewardship groups and domain experts across BlackRock to enable data governance on critical data that is vital to our business and our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with analytics & modeling development teams and data stewardship teams to drive critical data governance initiatives on new and existing investment & risk models, ensuring model input and output data follows our data governance guidelines.

  • Work to identify and resolve orphaned data pipelines for data critical to our investment & risk models.

  • Help enable teams to utilize our data governance capabilities and processes, including our enterprise metadata catalog and data quality framework.

  • Work closely with our data stewardship groups and users to stay abreast of new and evolving requirements to ensure alignment of our data governance capabilities.

  • Chair data governance forums and working groups across different data categories, ensuring senior stakeholders and business partners are kept up to date on critical data governance initiatives.

  • Work with data stewardship to utilize existing data governance dashboards, metrics and KPIs, providing details of data governance certification and compliance with data governance guidelines. Work with metric team to provide enhancement requirements to metrics when needed.

  • Mentor and lead a team of 1-3 junior data governance advisors across multiple data categories.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of experience in data governance, data management, capital market, investments, or financial technology industry.

  • Strong understand of data governance principles and standards, including metadata management, data quality, entitlements, lineage, data taxonomy.

  • Track record of working with and organizing data within financial markets, investment and risk analytics, or other data management functions.

  • Experience in leading cross-functional initiatives, with strong communication skills, project management abilities, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in coordinating and chairing large meetings with multiple executive stakeholders, creating agendas, coordinating relevant presenters and providing succinct updates to senior management.

  • Aladdin experiences from capital market, financial services firms, a plus.

  • Experience working within Agile project management frameworks is a plus (including tooling such as Azure DevOps)

Qualifications:

  • Degree in finance, computer science, engineering, mathematics, quantitative or related discipline. Bachelor’s degree is required. Advance degree preferred.

  • Comfort with data analysis and basic understanding of technical tools such as SQL, Python, Jupyter Notebook, Unix commands, Hadoop, Spark SQL, Power BI, etc.

  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and standards

  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and an ability to navigate complex data processes and organizations.

  • Enthusiasm for, and comfort with, driving work independently in a high pressure and fast pace environment with entrepreneurial and team-oriented setting.

  • Strong project management skills
