Precise Systems, Inc. Senior Electrophysiologist in Edgewood, Maryland

We are currently seeking a Senior Electrophysiologist with advanced experience in electrophysiology, molecular biology, and tissue culture. The candidate should have a well-demonstrated experience record in electrophysiology, particularly in patch clamping of voltage-gated and/or ligand-gated ion channels, and molecular and cellular signaling associated with ion channels. The candidate will be supporting efforts with a heavy emphasis on electrophysiology and cutting-edge instrumentation. Therefore, applicants who are willing to establish their own workflows and provide meaningful creative and technical leadership are highly desired.
All work is performed on-site, in Edgewood, MD, 5 days per week. Remote work is not authorized.
Duties:
Conduct electrophysiology assessments on overexpression cell lines
Measure calcium handling on multiple platforms on induced pluripotent stem cells or overexpression cell lines
Perform screening of compounds of interest and their effect on ion channel activity, whether that be in cell lines, induced pluripotent stem cells, or primary cells. This includes neuronal cells cardiomyocytes, organoids, etc
Keep detailed records of laboratory operations and compile data in regular technical reports.
Required Education:
Must have a Master’s degree with five years of experience or a Ph.D. with a background in Electrophysiology, Biochemistry, and Molecular biology techniques.
Required Experience:
Hands-on experience with the patch clamp technique (automated, manual or both)
Understanding of ion channel physiology, cell signaling associated with channel function and dysfunction
Hands-on experience with at least one of the following: 2D cell culture (overexpression cell systems such as HEK, CHO, etc.), primary cells, and induced pluripotent stem cells
Must have some hands-on experience with drug screening or toxicological assessments, with willingness to work with toxic compounds of interest
Must be able to design, plan, and execute experiments to understand electrophysiological effects of compounds of interest
Demonstrated technical/scientific leadership skills and a passion for problem-solving
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Able to work productively in an interdisciplinary team environment.
Desired Experience:
Fundamental skills in tissue culture and molecular biology techniques
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
