We are on the search for a Technical Writer to join the Optum State Government Operations team. As a Technical Writer, your main tasks will be to create clear and concise documentation, collaborate with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements, and ensure the quality and accuracy of technical information using the single-source documentation tool MadCap Flare.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the system, process or procedure in order to document steps

  • Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities

  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, grammar, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology

  • Create and maintain the information architecture

  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience

  • Write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help and developer guides

  • Create user documentation for a variety of materials, including how-to guides and instruction manuals

  • Write clear and concise policies and procedures

  • Assist in the maintenance and management of documentation repository software, including version control

  • Analyze current documents and make improvements to align with corporate style guide

  • Assist with requirements gathering/documentation for training needs

  • Assist with development/maintenance of web-based training

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in document development with emphasis on editing/writing

  • Advanced proficiency in MadCap Flare is mandatory

  • Business analysis experience – ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and graphics

  • Excellent written skills in English –ability to write clear, logical and grammatically correct documents

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with advanced level of proficiency in Word and Excel

  • Ability to include process flows, screenshots and illustrations in documents to visually explain how things work

  • Experience in developing and applying MS Word styles and templates

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Medicaid implementation experience

  • SharePoint knowledge

  • Experience with single-source documentation

  • Knowledge of regulations and requirements regarding documentation for accessibility (508) compliance

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
