The Associate Director of Provider Market Strategy will focus on delivering actionable market insights, including market and competitive intelligence, market research and trends to key executives within target business areas, sales, marketing, and client management. The Associate Director will conduct secondary and primary research initiatives transforming facts regarding market activity, competitor moves and buyer preferences into purposeful insights that help inform marketing and growth strategy.

The position will receive guidance from the Director, Optum Insight Market Research.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage research initiatives by implementing the entire research process, defining the research scope and budget, selecting the appropriate research methodologies, managing research vendor relations, interpreting, and analyzing data and information, as well as synthesizing disparate data, developing reports, communicating, and presenting research finding and implications to members of the organization

  • Conduct and analyze market and product research and competitive intelligence across healthcare industry

  • Utilize standard frameworks (e.g., Porter’s Five Forces, SWOT, Market Maps) to create actionable research findings

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the market research plan assuring delivery of research on time and within budget and recommend changes in the organization of the marketing intelligence group to ensure the effective fulfillment of objectives and provide the flexibility to move swiftly in relation to marketing research problems and opportunities

  • Monitor industry developments and announcements to create internal newsletters and produce dashboards utilizing a wide variety of research sources and databases

  • Support other strategy development, business planning and executive management activities

  • Present research findings and implications to all levels within the organization

  • Conduct and analyze market and product research and competitive intelligence

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (MBA/MHA/MPH preferred)

  • 3+ years of experience in market research and competitive intelligence

  • 3+ years of experience in the healthcare space

  • Demonstrable experience with primary and secondary research methodologies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and be extremely organized

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple deliverables at once

  • Experience building partnerships and trust with individuals at all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in the Provider and Payer segments

  • Project management and stakeholder relationship management experience

  • Experience in qualitative market/buyer/competitor trends research, and ability to apply this to key business decisions of a healthcare technology and consulting company

  • Knowledge of convention/conference/field-based competitive intelligence

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently; work with a sense of urgency and be comfortable with ambiguity and constant change; approach work in an enthusiastic, positive, and collaborative manner

  • Proven organizational skills with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
