As a Lead AI/ML Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and scaling of AI systems for health applications at Optum. These systems will solve problems focused on improving patient engagement, predicting progression of disease, and optimizing clinical trials using both structured and unstructured (text) data. As a lead engineer in charge of AI systems, you will apply state-of-the-art approaches for MLOps to ensure the performance and reliability of machine learning models serving our customers and build data pipelines that deliver real-time insights.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own the orchestration and delivery of machine learning insights to multiple customers

  • Manage, monitor, and scale machine learning systems, delivering insights to multiple customers

  • Own model and data orchestration

  • Drive pipeline efficiency and reliability through automation and testing

  • Work with the broader technical team to scope engineering milestones, provide updates, and communicate challenges

  • Develop new data pipelines to improve ML model performance

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related quantitative field

  • 5+ years of software engineering or related experience

  • Proficiency with CI/CD tools to ship production code

  • Experience with cloud environments and cloud-based batch model deployments using Python in at least one of Azure, AWS, Google Cloud

  • Experience with PySpark or SQL

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in computer science or related quantitative field

  • Expertise in ML Ops, for example, model monitoring, drift detection, and event-based model retraining

  • Experience with Databricks, AzureML, and Snowflake or related technologies

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
