Job Title: Assistant Scientist IJob Description

Involved in day-to-day activities in a laboratory setting under prescribed procedures (protocols, standard operating procedures, methods, etc.). Completes work for research and development under CGMP and/or GLP guidelines for studies, documentation, etc. Reports data in a timely manner according to regulatory guidelines and other governing rules or regulations. Assists in conducting studies and monitoring study procedures to ensure data accuracy and report quality. Provides basic biological and/or analytical work on projects and studies as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine experiments and procedures in accordance with all applicable regulatory (e.g., DEA, EPA, FDA, FIFRA, OECD, etc.) requirements as defined by protocol, method, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Adhere to schedule according to the organization's timetable and establish daily or weekly routines necessary to ensure on-time delivery.

  • Conduct title/skill appropriate procedures with minimal supervision using laboratory equipment, computer resources, and institutional libraries.

  • Perform analysis, first level, and peer review of data for accuracy and completeness.

  • Prepare data and reports of completed projects ensuring auditable quality for publication at completion of contracted work by clients.

  • Assist in preparation of data and final reports for completed projects or studies.

  • Depending on the area of assignment, analyze organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties.

  • Handle regulated materials (quarantined matrices, DEA controlled or radiolabeled materials, etc.), potential biohazard materials, and toxic chemicals according to company procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Work on several projects concurrently.

  • Perform other related duties as required and directed.

Essential Skills

  • Basic knowledge of scientific discipline.

  • Basic relevant technical skills.

  • Ability to read and understand protocols, SOPs, and technical guidelines.

  • Compliance with regulatory guidelines and company SOPs (CGMP, GLP).

  • Ability to learn proper utilization of laboratory equipment.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Ability to follow direction and good communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, environmental studies, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or other directly related field.

  • In rare cases, comparable demonstrated competence and experience in the relevant area may be used to substitute in whole or in part for the Bachelor’s degree.

  • Familiarity and/or experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.

  • Mechanical aptitude is a plus.

  • Handling radioactive or toxic chemicals may be required.

  • Knowledge of, or familiarity with use of fume hoods and glove boxes is beneficial.

  • Knowledge of basic office equipment (computers, printers, faxes, copiers, etc.) is necessary.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Working knowledge of basic laboratory statistics is preferred.

Work Environment

Working in the Aquatics Laboratory. The position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with overtime as needed. The laboratory is open 365 days a year.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
