Public Health Inspector The Health Inspector is responsible for routine inspections and investigations of complaints of unsanitary conditions, practices, and nuisances affecting the public?s health in accordance with local, state, and federal law. This includes the interpretation, implementation, and enforcement of the Code of Massachusetts Regulations, Board of Health Regulations, Mass. General Laws, and City Bylaws pertaining to all aspects of Public Health. Job Type: Part-Time (Benefitted), 20-25 Hours Per Week Salary: \$24.21 - \$28.91 Per Hour ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Conduct routine, complaint, and temporary inspections of food service establishments to assure compliance with Federal, State, and local codes and regulations. Review and analyze monthly bacteriologic testing of certain frozen dessert products. Investigates violations and enforces provisions of Chapter II of the State Sanitary Code, Minimum Standards of Fitness for Human Habitation. Inspect and re-inspect dwelling units. Prepare findings and issue correction orders. Prepare documents to issue condemnation orders. Responsible for placarding dwelling unit as \"condemned\" and ensuring occupants are removed from unit in a timely manner. May be called in after normal business hours to respond to emergency situations such as fires, significant damage to dwellings/food establishments, etc. Perform lead paint determinations in conformity with standard procedures. Investigate nuisances, filth, and causes of sickness to abate violations and correct unsanitary conditions. Conduct inspections of public swimming pools and spas, recreational camps for children, and tanning salons for compliance with State Sanitary Code requirements. Conducts inspections of body art establishments to determine Board of Health regulation compliance. Perform inspections to eliminate vermin and rodents and determine asbestos violations, hazardous spills, obnoxious odors, etc. Investigate violations of the prohibiting smoking and take necessary enforcement action. Enforcement of local tobacco regulations with respect to youth access. Perform inspection of private sewage disposal systems, witness percolation tests, and review on-site sewage disposal system plans to assure compliance with Title V regulations. Prepare records of inspections. Schedule inspections and maintain accurate and detailed records of enforcement actions and monitor timelines for compliance. File complaints with courts for enforcement action and appear in court as necessary. Perform all other related work as required. SUPERVISION Works under the policy direction of the Board of Health and the supervision and guidance of the Health Agent and Director of Public Health within the Easthampton Health Department. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Associate degree in public health, environmental sanitation, or a related field with one year experience as a sanitary inspector, code enforcement inspector, sanitarian, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
