Stony Brook Medicine (Stony Brook University Hospital) Senior Financial Analyst - Strategic Analytics in East Setauket, New York
Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Sr. Financial Analyst is a valuable member of our Strategic Analytics team. The Sr. Financial Analyst is primarily responsible for the creation, modification, formatting, and distribution of complex reports utilizing our DSS report writer, Tableau or other Business Intelligence tools. They will also maintain functionality within the Syntellis (formerly McKesson) Performance Analytics Decision Support System (DSS). They will execute and validate data integrations and the results yielded, on a recurring basis. They will modify revenue rules within DSS, audit results and reconcile results to source data. They will participate in testing any system upgrades or changes to the data extract interfaces. This position works closely with others in Finance and IT.
Duties of a Sr. Financial Analyst in the Strategic Analytics department may include but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for the design, development and timely dissemination of complex reports and dashboards that align with the business needs of our end users.
- Executes and validates data integrations and results yielded, on a recurring basis.
- Executes integration processes and addresses errors in a timely and efficient manner.
o Performs audits of data elements from hospital billing and other sources
o Under the direction of the manager, works with others in finance, HIM, IT, etc. to request corrections, when necessary, of source data
o Participate in data validation during system upgrades and changes to the data extract interfaces.
- Maintains and validates data integrity in our Decision Support System
o Creates, maintains, and monitors dashboards (Syntellis, Tableau, Excel) used for weekly and monthly audits and investigates any variances.
o Under the direction of the Manager, make appropriate modifications to revenue rules as well as updates values in the 3M grouper modules in Syntellis to ensure estimated revenue is accurately calculated by the system.
o Creates and maintains reports and dashboards in support of revenue calculations and field audits.
o With the Manager and other Sr. Analysts, reconciles final data to source systems including the GL and the billing system.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.
- At least 4 years progressive related analytical experience.
- Advanced proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Access.
- Experience with SQL.
- Experience in Business Intelligence/Visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and disseminate significant amounts of data with consistent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Understanding of database relationships and structures.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with employees throughout the organization.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of hospital financial analysis and cost accounting.
- Experience with accounting concepts, analytics, service line profitability.
- Experience with interfacing and integration of data feeds from source systems to hospital Decision Support/Cost Accounting Systems.
- Experience utilizing hospital Decision Support Systems.
- Understanding of hospital coding, billing, and reimbursement.
- Experience in the use of SSIS packages.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is - $102000 - $117300 / year.
The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
