Job Summary:

At Caterpillar’s East Peoria facility, we manufacture and assemble Track Type Tractors. In this role as a Tooling Supervisor, you will report to the Facilities Engineering Manager and will be primarily responsible for all LL Tool Room support services while ensuring safety and performance standards. As a member of the Maintenance Support team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:

  • Manage up to 25 UAW skilled trade employees supporting LL operations and Caterpillar partners across the corporation. These employees include Tool Makers, Machinists, Welders, Blacksmiths and Sign maker

  • Prioritizing workload from numerous customers across East Peoria campus, and other Cat facilities with evaluating capability/capacity for job requests

  • Coordinating/prioritizing workload with maintenance team for machine repairs based on production needs

  • Managing time keeping along with daily and weekend overtime and reporting in Workday

  • Manage shop inventory – stock for saw/waterjet/sign shop areas plus all general supplies/tooling

  • Monitoring toolroom efficiency and cost monitoring data

  • Track and update tool order status in TOMS system

  • Complying with safety, health, and environmental guidelines and participating in continuous improvement of the procedures while performing equipment maintenance.

Degree Requirement :

  • Degree or equivalent experience desired

• Organizes potential problem solvers and leads problem resolution efforts.

• Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate.

• Contributes to standard practices for problem-solving approaches, tools, and processes.

• Develops successful resolutions to critical or wide-impact problems.

Mechanical/Machinery : Knowledge of machines and tools; ability to use knowledge of machinery or mechanical objects including their designs, uses,

Level Extensive Experience:

• Uses/operates and maintains the most complex tools and machinery.

• Recommends on-going improvements regarding operation, safety and training of equipment and machinery.

• Conduct regular audits of tools, machinery and equipment to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards

• Instruct employees on CNC machining, welding, lathe and water jetting operations

5S Housekeeping : Knowledge of 5S Housekeeping concepts; ability to design, implement and sustain 5S housekeeping strategies to ensure standardization of workplace operations.

Level Extensive Experience:

• Monitors the implementation of 5S housekeeping methodology within the organization.

• Facilitates discussions among employees about the standardization of work processes.

• Monitors the consensus about how work should be done.

• Teaches employees about the importance of process ownership in 5S activities.

• Oversees the maintenance of a clean environment as an ongoing program.

• Uses checklists to mark areas based on key criteria.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Policy Compliance : Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies; ability to implement EHS policies to ensure that provided products and services are safe for people and the environment and in compliance with legal requirements and standards.

Level Working Knowledge:

• Uses safety or personal protective equipment, e.g. safety boots and protective eyewear.

• Prepares for emergency situations according to EHS policy.

• Replaces hazardous materials with environmentally friendly ones where appropriate.

• Conducts risk assessments to identify hazards in the business, work areas and work processes.

• Completes incident report forms after detecting risks or hazards in the workplace.

Top candidates will also have the following:

  • Advanced machining knowledge/GD&T-print reading

  • Previous supervision experience

  • SAP/Mach1 Experience

  • Guided Buy/Nextgen Coupa Experience

  • Strong Communication skills

  • A focus on customer service

The primary location for this position is East Peoria, IL
