Advocacy Coordination

  • All service delivery is for those experiencing interpersonal violence. Stalking clients will be referred to non-VOCA funded staff.
  • Completes need assessments with clients experiencing interpersonal violence.
  • Provides the following services to shelter residents and non-resident clients: survivor-driven advocacy including crisis intervention, support, safety planning, evaluation of basic needs, referrals, and case/cause advocacy with service providers interacting with clients that may include providing didactic information and relationship-building to improve safety to survivors and accountability to those who perpetrate abuse.
  • Provides advocacy on behalf of clients working with MSU Police, Office of Institutional Equity, Prosecutor's Office, family court, and with other campus and community service providers.
  • Maintains client confidentiality
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely manner, including participation in a shared case management system that supports collaboration and consultation.
  • Coordinates referrals to service in the community when necessary.
  • Assists in facilitating training for SACI volunteers and Volunteer Medical Advocates once per semester.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with campus and community partners.
  • Follows up and tracks referrals to ensure quality of care according to the individual client's needs.
  • Maintains a database of referral resources and community services in surrounding communities.
  • Completes other miscellaneous VOCA Grant, University, and program documentation as needed.
  • Maintains client confidentiality.
  • Completes other duties as specified and assigned.

     

Additional Service Delivery

  • Completes intakes for interpersonal violence survivors receiving services as needed.
  • Provides support to meet shelter residents' basic needs, including providing personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, over the counter medication, and groceries while in shelter, and assists in meeting survivor needs after shelter exits.
  • Shares on-call (standby) responsibilities with other full-time staff and attends to client emergencies and after-hours intakes.

     

Note: This position is funded by Victim of Crime Act grant. The grant year runs October 1 - September 30. Additionally, this position is funded until September 2025 with the possibility of renewal. 

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Bachelor's degree in social work or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience providing advocacy, crisis intervention, and supportive services to survivors of relationship violence, stalking and/ or sexual assault, and experience facilitating training and presentations for large groups; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Master's Degree in Social Work preferred.

demonstrated competency and expertise in providing services and building relationships with diverse populations of clients.

more than two years of experience providing crisis intervention, advocacy and/or counseling to survivors of interpersonal violence.

experience with providing victim advocacy services in a campus setting, data collection/reporting, and crisis intervention.

an understanding of interpersonal violence and natural responses to trauma.

an awareness of and experience using an intersectional lens with a focus on multiculturalism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
