Position Summary

The Institute for Global Health in the College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks a Study Abroad coordinator to aid the unit facilitating the preparation of Study Abroad programs for IGH with OEA and in-country logistics. The candidate for this position is responsible for executing administrative tasks that serve student engagement with IGH international programs.  Candidate must be able to work ON-SITE at MSU East Lansing Campus, at least 3 days a week between Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm with occasional evening and weekend support to other IGH team members for visits by domestic and international personnel or students from partner universities. 

The candidate for this position is responsible for leading and executing the academic and administrative tasks that serve medical student and undergraduate engagement with the Institute for Global Health (IGH) international programs. This position leads and manages IGH's planning, facilitation, and preparation of IGH's Education/Study Abroad programs with the Office of Education Abroad (OEA) and in-country logistics for the destination sites of the programs. The candidate must prioritize and respond to inquiries from key offices and students in a timely fashion and will represent MSU and IGH to our global health care partners for program students.

This position leads, manages, and conducts IGH's support of the faculty program leaders.  This position supports the faculty program leaders in developing and designing the programs.  The position is also critically responsible for providing assistance and clarifications to faculty and staff in interpreting study abroad policies, advising, and special problems, including disciplinary problems abroad and for developing and delivering appropriate relevant country-specific pre-departure programs and materials for study abroad participants. The person must also understand and properly interpret university policy, protocol and administrative procedures in response to inquiries and initiate necessary action,

The position will provide supervision over regular and student employees The candidate will need to display professional skills and cultural awareness and sensitivity in dealing professionally with students, faculty and academic staff within MSU and international partners. 

This position, typically with the support of the faculty program leaders, leads the marketing, recruitment, advising, and enrollment for student applicants in the study abroad programs, considering the procedural information that is necessary for successfully performing the tasks. The successful applicant will be a liaison with student organizations and college advisors.

The position is also responsible, in conjunction with faculty and departments, to develop budgets for each study abroad program needing to balance estimated revenues, expenses considering a range of factors, such as the number of participants, costs of transportation, lodging, meals, lecturer fees, on-site activities, exchange rates, among others. The successful candidate will have the responsibility for submitting travel requests and travel reimbursements and will need coordinate the overseas logistical arrangements, including student housing, field trips, classrooms, and flights for each of the various study abroad programs.

The position will have access to confidential and sensitive information that required additional training under FERPA and MSU guidelines. The candidate must exercise sound judgment, while displaying utmost confidentiality and discretion as part of their basic professional requirements.
