Position Summary
The Kim Lab in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Michigan State University is seeking a highly skilled and motivated researcher to join our dynamic research team. This position offers a unique blend of hands-on research, lab management, and mentorship opportunities.
The successful candidate will design and execute experiments utilizing cell culture, protein purification, and protein-protein interaction analyses. Responsibilities include conducting experiments, analyzing experimental data, and assisting in compiling findings for reports and publications. As the lab expands into new research areas, the role may involve establishing and testing novel techniques.
Lab management duties encompass inventory management, supply ordering, preparation of shared solutions and reagents, proper handling of hazardous materials, and equipment maintenance oversight. The position also involves training new lab members and supervising undergraduate research students.
Experience with cell culture, protein expression, and purification is essential.
Desired qualifications include a Master's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field, with at least 2 years' experience in a research laboratory setting.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four- year college degree program in biochemistry, molecular biology, or other related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience performing basic research techniques specific to the area of research employment such as: Tissue Culture, Analytical Research, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Medical Research, etc., including the use and calibration of related equipment; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job may require the appropriate pesticide applicator's registration/certification, and/or experience working with potentially dangerous research animals specific to the area of research employment.
