Position Summary

Dr. Yijie Wang is accepting applications for a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Michigan State University. This is a 1 year position, with an option to renew for another year based on performance, on a 5-year project, funded by the National Institute of Health, to examine multiple forms of discrimination, substance use, sleep, and neighborhood environment over the course of late childhood and adolescence, using the national data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study. The position is renewable contingent on funding.

The person will receive a unique training opportunity to work in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team at Michigan State University, Fordham University, and Massachusetts General Hospital. The person will also collaborate with another 2-year postdoctoral research associate funded by the project, hired at Fordham University and supervised by Dr. Tiffany Yip.

Responsibilities         

• Engage in the following type of activities: data cleaning and management, measure construction, data analyses, preparation of publications and conference presentations, applying for additional funding, mentoring graduate and undergraduate lab members
• Work with a research team of undergraduate research assistants, doctoral students, and other research associates

Required Degree

Doctorate -Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, Sociology, Education, or relevant social science

Minimum Requirements

• Ph.D. in Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, Sociology, Education, or relevant social science by date of hire
• Experience with secondary analysis with large, longitudinal datasets
• Strong quantitative methodologies (e.g., structural equation modeling, cross-lagged models, latent growth models, multilevel models, measurement invariance)

Desired Qualifications

• Expertise with marginalized youth groups (e.g., based on ethnicity, race, immigration status, gender and sexual orientation, weight)
• Experience and expertise with the project aims (e.g., substance use and biomarker data, sleep and actigraphy assessment, neighborhood environment and geocode data)
• Capacity to disseminate research findings and work independently and collaboratively
