Position Summary
The College of Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) tenure-system faculty positions focused on innovating across the cancer research continuum. We welcome innovative research across all areas of cancer, from understanding fundamental mechanisms of tumorigenesis to developing new diagnostics, therapies, and prevention strategies. We encourage applications for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor and will consider exceptional candidates for appointment at the rank of Associate or (Full) Professor.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline at the time of appointment, with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2024. The candidate is expected to establish a sustainable, externally funded, and internationally visible research program; make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline; be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students; engage in institutional and professional service; and contribute toward the university's mission in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Candidates are encouraged to describe the potential impacts of their research focus and how their work might complement existing strengths in the Department. Other qualifications include strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, an ability to work in a collaborative research environment, and a commitment to promoting and embracing diversity. Joint appointments with other engineering or bioscience departments are possible considering existing strengths and capabilities as well as the candidate's preferences. Successful candidates will be appointed to an academic-year position in the tenure system, with tenure, if appropriate. Successful candidates are expected to elevate the reputation of MSU through their professional activities. Those who conduct research that enhances or is related to aspects of inclusion and equity are of high interest.

Minimum Requirements
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field
- Track record of significant contributions to the biomedical engineering discipline
- Potential/ability to establish a sustainable and internationally recognized BME research program
- Evidence of ability to be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students
- Interest in/evidence of institutional and professional service
- Dedication to the university's mission in diversity, equity, and inclusion through their research, teaching, and service
Desired Qualifications
- Additional research experience beyond the PhD, through a post-doctoral, industry, or faculty appointment
- An ability to participate in BME curriculum development
- Ability to collaborate with current faculty in the Department as well as throughout the university
