Position Summary

The successful candidate will perform the general operations accounting and fiscal activities of the Plant Resilience Institute (PRI); perform post-award accounting and fiscal activities for Institute level PRI grants; serve as Fiscal Officer for the PRI general fund operating account; prepare and distribute monthly financial reports for PRI research and general fund accounts; monitor account balances; and provide information to meet reporting requirements. The position will be required to develop budget projection reports, prepare account reallocations, and process cost transfers. In addition, the position will be responsible for performing various accounting and administrative duties as assigned for the Dean’s Office unit in the College of Natural Science. Those duties could include assisting with post award accounting for a handful of grants managed by the Dean’s Office, taking a lead role with system security access administration for the College and working within Spartan Space to monitor space utilization records for the College. The successful candidate will report to the Budget Officer for the College of Natural Science and will be responsive to the Director of PRI. In addition, the position will interact with the financial team in the MSU Office of Research and Innovation (ORI). This position will not include any supervision responsibilities. The primary work location will be the Natural Science building on MSU’s East Lansing Campus. This position will be expected to work on campus a minimum of 4 days per week.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervision, accounting procedures and developing accounting controls, policies and procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Desired Qualifications

Previous experience in an academic unit; previous experience in financial management including planning, forecasting and budgeting. Proficiency with EBS, Kuali, Power BI and Query Studio.
