Emerson Application Engineer in East Dundee, Illinois

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Application Engineer plays a critical role in bridging the gap between customer needs and technical solutions. The individual in this position will be responsible for analyzing sophisticated customer applications to recommend equipment and design improvements, developing cost estimates, providing detailed project mentorship, and delivering troubleshooting support both internally and externally. Additionally, the Application Engineer will contribute to process improvement initiatives and support the sales team with technical insights. To be successful, this role requires a blend of technical competence, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various collaborators to deliver high-quality solutions.

IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

  • Analyze and evaluate customer applications for assembly and lead recommending equipment, tooling, and part design modifications for high-end projects and new market opportunities.

  • Provide technology and solution expertise to help define project paths.

  • Perform material weldability evaluations.

  • Provide application troubleshooting support both in-house and in the field.

  • Conduct customer visits independently to provide technical information or tackle customer problems.

  • Provide written technical communications (i.e. application feasibility evaluation, application briefs, technical bulletins) for customers, industry groups and suppliers.

  • Provide training for customer and new employees through in-house seminars, field seminars, and lab training programs.

  • Provide Technical Support to Market Segment Managers.

  • Support key and target account strategy with Business Development Managers and Sales.

  • Develop and lead process improvement initiatives.

  • Help lead direct training of new Application Engineers during initial onboarding.

  • Pursue new capabilities and resources to improve the output of Application Engineering.

  • Additional projects as assigned by manager.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering

  • 1+ year of Engineering experience as applications engineer or related engineering

  • Physically capable of transporting materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

  • Experience in manufacturing

  • Knowledge of plastics and their applications

  • Prior experience as an Application Engineer or a similar role
