POSITION SUMMARY

This position will effectively execute the Mechanical Integrity Program, Goals, and initiatives at the East Dubuque Nitrogen Fertilizer (EDNF) facility. Supervise and perform external, internal, and on-stream inspections of plant fixed equipment and process piping. Assure plant process reliability and safe continued operation. Maintain mechanical integrity asset records; establish, predict, and monitor minimum thickness levels. Inspect, oversee, and direct repairs and modifications for code compliance with industry best practices and jurisdictional authorities rules and laws.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Possess a combination of (3) API certifications in either 510, 570, 653, 580, 577, 571 or CWI certification, or an NBIC commission and having held the certifications for at least 10 years.
  • Previously certified in or currently hold SNT-TC-1A Level II certification in MT, PT, or UT thickness or Advanced Flaw Detection.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years petrochemical plant experience required and must have a good understanding and working knowledge of procedures including Inspection, Safety, Turnaround, and Code Repair of plant process equipment.
  • Competent level knowledge and previous use of PCMS or equivalent software.
  • Demonstrates a strong and thorough understanding of the application of API Standards, API Recommended Practices and ASME Construction Codes.
  • Clear written and direct verbal communications skills are required. Must be able to operate and instruct on the field use of NDT equipment, UT, PT, MT and VT. Periodic interpretation and acceptance of radiographic weld quality film.
  • Fluent in English, spoken and written required.
  • Must be able to read and draw isometric drawings and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Must be able to work in a plant environment involving climbing, confined spaces, etc.
  • Ability to communicate and resolve issues in a professional and tactful manner.
  • Strong understanding of various NDT methods, advantages, and limitations.
  • Strong understanding of corrosion related damage mechanisms.
  • Must have a strong background in interpretation of construction/piping drawings (Isometric, P&ID, CADD, etc.).
  • Understand and be able to carry out plant process systemization and circuitization of in-service and new fixed equipment and piping.
  • Must be highly goal oriented, self-motivated, and able to proceed on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess the strong organizational skills necessary to accomplish a high level of multi-tasking.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Determine serviceability and make recommendations on the repair or replacement of piping, vessels, towers, heaters, exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment. Methodologies include but are not limited to VT, UT Straight Beam, RT, PT, MT or other NDT technologies to acquire data for mechanical integrity analysis of fixed equipment.
  • Maintain and oversee inspection data collection, analysis, and integrity of the PCMS management system employing UT and/or RT of corrosion rates, inspection dates and predicted retirement of plant equipment. Assure all subsequent UT and/or RT inspection data will be entered into the PCMS software program detailing Design Pressure, Design Temperature, service (process stream), metallurgy, and required minimum thickness. Communicate relevant findings and actions to the Senior Inspector and Plant Superintendents.
  • Maintain and update fixed equipment mechanical integrity documents and file in a well-organized mann r.
  • Oversee contractor weld procedures, performance test welders, and NDT performance.
  • Champion the plant Positive Materials Identification Program. Incorporate alloy identification and scrutinization of material specification into daily field inspection tasks, inspection planning activities, and with other on-site inspectors.
  • Conduct on-site project inspection and field oversite and supervision on a daily basis as needed
  • Maintain effective communication with Contractors, Maintenance, Operations, and Technical on matters including inspection / EDNF Material Specifications / API / ASME / NBIC code requirements, condition of equipment, workmanship that fails to meet requirements, and recommendations regarding repair of equipment.
  • Provide repair/replace recommendations of fixed equipment and piping based on corrosion, applicable damage mechanisms, and remaining life calculations.
  • Turnaround inspection planning, execution, and mechanical integrity leadership.
