Summary This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs NA), Veterans Health Administration N HA}, Mid Atlantic Health Care Network N ISN 6), Durham VA Medical Center, in the Operations Section of Engineering Service. Serves as the technical and administrative supervisor over the Operation Section within Engineering Service, exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Performs normal repetitive functions of operations, observations, inspections, tests, repairs and preventive maintenance on the Air Conditioning Plant and the Boiler Plant as per standing shift orders and daily operation orders. Responsible for overseeing the operation of the Siemens building automation system. Responsible for the performance and assignment of all preventive maintenance of all the Boilers, Chillers, Air Conditioning, Plant equipment controls, Refrigeration units, Elevators, HVAC&R renovations, and the Temp-trak monitoring system according to the MCM's. Responsible for the operations and on-the-job training for operating and maintaining equipment in both Boiler and Chiller Plants and all ancillary environmental equipment throughout the hospital and all associated lease properties. Responsible for operations, monitoring and maintaining supplementary reciprocating electric driver chiller units, and high pressure steam boilers, both gas and oil-fired. Supervise the operation of all supporting and component equipment of air conditioning systems including: cooling towers, fans, and pumps. Responsible for establishing deadlines and priorities of work to maintain the plant and equipment in good working order. Conduct training sessions with the operator on duty to ensure that all operators are qualified and familiar with the requirements of their duties and responsibilities. Responsible for the maintenance of the boilers, combustion controls, and recorders to assure that boiler equipment is producing at peak efficiency at all times. Responsible for evaluating employees' performance under his/her supervision. Responsible for scheduling employees' annual leave, with authority to approve or disapprove leave as Medical Center needs require. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Works in cramped positions at times and must be continuously alert to the many hazardous conditions that prevail in the A/C and Boiler Plants. He/she must work on high scaffolds when replacing or repairing distribution piping or other equipment. Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
