IQVIA Principal Infrastructure Automation Architect in Durham, North Carolina

Technical Architecture Team: The Technical Domain Architecture team consists of hands-on engineers with expertise in various technical domains. They define and maintain IQVIA architecture standards and reference architectures, build reference implementations and provide guidance to engineering teams during the technical design committee process. In addition, technical architects will lead agile guilds for their domain – communities of practice that share technical knowledge across IQVIA’s federated engineering teams.

The Position’s Overview/Elevator Pitch: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Infrastructure Automation Architect to join our Technical Domain Architecture team within the Architecture and Standards Group of our Global Technology Organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing and implementing automation solutions for large-scale infrastructure environments. As the principal infrastructure automation architect, you will play a key role in transforming our IT infrastructure through automation, ensuring scalability, reliability and efficiency while providing a world-class developer experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Author Standards and Best Practices: Author and maintain standards and best practices documents for infrastructure automation to ensure consistency, quality, security and efficiency across IQVIA. Continuously review and update standards to reflect emerging technologies and industry best practices.

  • Collaboration: Lead the infrastructure automation topics as part of the cloud guild. Work closely with development, operations and security teams to align automation efforts with business objectives. Communicate automation strategies, progress and outcomes to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Innovation: Serve as the infrastructure automation thought leader, recommending the appropriate automation tools and frameworks to improve our system designs. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends in infrastructure automation. Identify opportunities for process improvements and optimization through automation.

  • Developer Productivity and Experience: Contribute to the design of the Internal Developer Portal (DevIQ) related to infrastructure automation. Advocate for and implement Infrastructure as Code practices to enable version-controlled, repeatable and auditable infrastructure changes. Develop and maintain reusable IaC modules and templates for consistent and scalable infrastructure deployment.

  • Vendor and Tool Evaluation: Evaluate automation services and vendors to balance functionality, cost, and developer experience.

  • Security: Ensure automation solutions adhere to security and compliance standards. Implement automated security checks and controls as part of the infrastructure deployment process.

  • Mentorship : Lead and mentor organizations in adopting automation best practices and methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development and architecture.

  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure, with a focus on automation and orchestration.

  • Extensive experience with AWS, Azure and Hybrid cloud environments.

  • Extensive experience with cloud infrastructure as code tools (e.g. Terraform, Pulumi, AWS CDK)

  • Extensive experience with CI/CD tools like Gitlab CI/CD, Github Actions and Jenkins

  • Solid understanding of networking, storage and virtualization technologies

  • Proven experience in authoring technical standards and best practices documentation for infrastructure automation

  • Extensive knowledge of cloud services supporting compute (serverless, container orchestrators), storage, search, caches, monitoring, IAM, configuration/parameter storage, etc.

  • Proficiency in programming/scripting languages such as Python and Javascript.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS, EKS, Fargate)

  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, DataDog)

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $142,800.00 - $265,200.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
